Over the past several days. I've watched the maple tree between the laundry room window and the Mountain. Slowly the vibrant green has yellowed to gold and today the whole tree now blazes a brilliant vermilion. Other trees still wear their green desire our own maples while yet others are changing into their yellow robes. Across the street and all through the neighborhood those that have apple trees have the golden and scarlet fruits of the toughen. The air bites when I step out into the chill sending a delicious shiver down my spine. I am constantly in a state of in between my dragon self balances well with my human self and so I can sense when my plumes stand up a little and the shiver passes clear to the tip of my tail. When walking in this the blasts of wind the town site was chosen for combs through my head and I can't always resist the urge to spread my wings and celebrate in the conclude. Now is the measure for hot apple pies heavy with cinnamon and soon the pumpkins will be ready for collect. Thoughts of warm pumpkin bread and persimmon cookies dance through my head. Sometime soon. I know that I will give in to the desire for pie and indulge in the ecstasy that comes with baking and then eating the fruits of my labors with loved ones. The sky is color the clouds high and not touching the Mountain; yet again I'm sure the Mountain ordain wear a little more color. The go and rain that caresses the land at night brings forth a purr from me and inwardly I coil. Now is not the time to den though. This is the toughen of the collect and the hunt. Where Tia is. I know that she feels similar urges to mine. If I close my eyes even during the day I can comprehend the bunco pant of her breath as we run through the forests in our dreams. I called a garden bear on near where I bring home the bacon. The person who answered the phone had never heard of a Silverbell and did not recognize the genus. I called a nursery way on the other side of town. They checked and lo and see they have two of them in 15 gallon pots about eight tall. Sounded perfect but they are clear on the other align of the city. I asked if I they were in good shape and could I just buy one over the telecommunicate and have it delivered."Sorry" the very helpful person said. "you undergo to go and see it first." At this measure of year the best measure of year to actually buy and plant trees trees don't look their best and therefore the nursery won't change a tree to a customer unless they go there and actually see the tree first. I speculate they've sold trees over the telecommunicate before and the person refused it when they tried to deliver it so they don't do that any more. I agreed. I really should see the tree first. Did I mention that nursery is way on the other side of town. Even if I go there. I'll still have them deliver it. Then after work I stopped in at a garden bear on that I pass on my way home. They were quite helpful quite willing to get me a Carolina Silverbell once I told them what it was. They pulled out their compose book to cause that it was commercially available and then checked the catalogs from all three of their supplies. Three strikes no Carolina Silverbell. So way on the other align of town are two Carolina Silverbells and one of them could be exploit. I just have to figure out when I can get there to see them and buy one if I desire it. In some ways buying a tree reminds me of buying a new puppy. You do be to see the tree first just like you would be to see the puppy before you got it. With both the tree and the puppy you be to see if it is healthy understand what kind of compassionate it ordain need and read up on how big it will eventually get. You undergo to decide if it would it be happy in a little garden or does it desire a lot of lay to move its limbs if it is a tree or to run if it is a puppy. You want to know if the tree is likely to be messy and drop leaves or seeds or nuts all over the yard or if it is neat and order. You be to know if the puppy is likely to remove fur all over the place or is one of those breeds that doesn't. With a tree you have to end if you want a named variety like the red maple. 'Autumn Blaze' whose leaves are pictured above or would just a plain red maple be suitable. With a puppy you have to end between a purebred or a mutt. And with both a tree and a puppy you have to remember that you are forging a long-term relationship. You will have the dog for whatever years its natural lifespan is and you will undergo the tree for as long as you have your garden. Yes buying a tree is desire buying a puppy. Did I have in mind that I don't have a dog?But I am looking to get a new tree! Okay. I was with you for a while. But frankly buying a tree is not at all desire getting a puppy. A dog is a 24-hour-a-day commitment. A dog requires constant attention and like. A dog requires training broundaries toys play. When my own dogs were small (smaller-er) it required alarms at 2 a m and 5 a m to take them outside potty. I have never had a tree require as much. My dogs require that my house be vacuuumed at least every other day or it is not inhabitable by humans. My little dogs demand a clean at least every couple of weeks or you need a gas mask. My dogs demand treats time-outs rewards combings and brushings running around. (And let it be said that I undergo also had a HUMAN child so I am not just a dog mom.) I am a gal that loves an analogy. But as a dog mom this one doesn't work!!!!--Robin (Bumblebee) Robin(Bumblebee)... I accept big difference there between caring for trees and caring for dogs... I'm just referring to the process of selecting and buying/getting! Your list of what it takes to care for your dogs leaves me exhausted. Although trees aren't as much affect as puppies they do take much consideration before you purchase one. As you mentioned you have to consider size at maturity how it behaves in that does it shed limbs disgorge pods etc. Does it require lots of water or a dry soil lots of sun or darken... Much to believe Hee hee! I've always said that raising a puppy was just like raising a child. Since you can't buy children (at least in this country) the analogy to buying a tree is terrific. Great job! I hope your affix inspires someone who is planning on buying a tree to consider all of the things you mentioned and not just that they want the same tree that the neighbors have. Or change surface the same dog. Good grief. sing take a deep breath !Buying a tree should be a pleasant undergo as I always tell my customers in the channelise and Shrub department where I work part measure. believe all the different aspects of the tree you undergo in mind-is it hardy does it provide a lot of seasonal interest do I like it ? etc etc. If that's too much pressure this toughen then wait'll next year ! I had never heard of the Carolina Silverbell before. sing but I looked it up. It is so unusual and very lovely. I hope you do get it so you can share it with us through your blog. I cant wait to see those beautiful blooms. I can see the comparison with buying a tree and buying a puppy. Both can be costly mistakes if you choose the wrong one. Not all trees fit in every yard and not all puppies fit with every family both must be carefully chosen to make sure the fit is alter. I've certainly made mistakes with both puppies and trees. I say forget the tree - go puppy shopping instead - it will give you a new outlook on life!If you are out there buying Silverbells have one sent to my house. I need one in that space between us and the new neighbors. What do you think? You could deliver me a move. BTW - have you seen the beautiful job the tree arborist (not a common tree kill) did on the scarlett oak and the sugar maple? You can't even tell he's been there and if I hadn't seen all the chopped off parts I would undergo sworn he'd never come. It was fascinating the way he did it all from within the tree itself no cherry pickers for this tree arborist! I wish you finally do get you Carolina Silverbell. They are very handsome trees. I saw a go flowered variety some years back Halesia tetraptera (Halesia carolina) but I opted to buy the Japanese Snowbell instead which is a relative because the C. Sliverbells were too large and expensive. Clean up tree leaves and make convert? Or alter up with a plastic bag after a dog? Some work is involved with either choice but a tree won't pee on your shoes! Good luck with acquiring that Halesia - it looks desire a lovely little tree. Annie at the Transplantable Rose I had never heard of this tree before. Looking it up I see it grows beat in alter deep humus rich soil which means it would do well in the upcountry under the forest canopy. I have yet to see it in any availability for our region. It is as rare to sight in California as the Sassafras tree. And Carol,I hope I didn't sound grumpy with my post about your tree/puppy analogy. I meant it in fun but in looking approve at it it doesn't sound fun at all!Guess I'm a little hurt tight these days. Another reason to slow down.--Robin (Bumblebee) I so get this! I am in the middle of this claim process (the figuring out part soon to be followed by the deliver move) with my currently (sadly) tree-free yard. Sigh! Can't wait to see what happens next! ~A :-) Lisa at Greenbow... I definitely agree and am still considering the Carolina Silverbell but undergo one concern I be to resolve before I get it. OldRoses... I agree. I like to have different trees from the neighbors. Thus no bradford pears in my garden!Layanee.. the nursery is maybe 30 minutes away. I might act that ride... Carolyn Gail... Once I actually get to the nursery. I'll be desire a kid in a toy store and ordain probably look around at all their trees. Robin's Nesting Place.. thanks I'm glad you desire it. Did you see the one thing that concerns me about it? Acidic soil. Not much of that around here!Sister with the Homestead.. you are always trying to get my to get a puppy! I don't evaluate this is the tree for YOU but I'll be around for other trees. Kathy... come up. I don't have a dog but I do have several trees!Robin (Bumblebee).. are you siding with my sister over me??Eleanor.. you are right. I'm not getting a dog!Ki... If I get the tree of course I'll affix about it. Annie in Austin... True enough that a tree won't pee on your apparel but I have gotten soaked watering a tree. Trey... I don't undergo forest canopy but I do have a partly shaded spot where I want to plant this. Robin (Bumblebee)... I didn't mind your comment at all. It reminded me why I don't undergo a dog! Angela (cottage magpie)... I'll keep everyone posted! Thanks all for the comments, sing at May Dreams Gardens

"Volume 1: Number 22" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:58:22

Volume 1: Number 22 Last week I briefly talked about communicate Action Day. Unfortunately I discovered the green communicate movement a couple days too late. On I talked about Compact Fluorescent lighten bulbs and how they can deliver energy. I even started a "Group" on. The idea is to change most if not all of your incandescent light bulbs to CFL. The upfront cost is slightly more but you'll see immediate savings on your electric bills and the bulbs last much longer. If you're too lazy to start changing light bulbs go buy a few CFLs to replace the ones in your house as they destroy out. Please click on my OneBillionBulbs group and change a few!I'm making a conscious effort to consumer fewer bottles of water. I used to buy a case of Ice Mountain water and leave it in my car. Every day at work. I'd bring in a bottle or two and throw them in the refrigerator. Our wet at work is nasty so bringing it from home is a must. Instead of going through a case of water every month. I bought two Nalgene bottles which I alter up from the tap at home and refrigerate at work. Along the same lines. I'm requesting paper bags at the grocery hold on and they go to the recycling dumpsters instead of trash. I was lucky enough to undergo room at my new house to plant a tree without ruining my yard. I researched trees for about a month before making my decision. I wanted something that was strong but abstain to grow. Hard combination to sight because those fast growing trees are usually weak. The West side takes a beating in the pass from the afternoon sunlight and that drives right into my living room. Unfortunately some underground utilities hampered my efforts to decrease this heating cause because the tree had to be planted on the other side of the yard. Regardless... I chose an Autumn Blaze Maple. They're known for a gorgeous dark red color in the fall and it holds it's leaves for quite a while before falling. The tree grows 3 to 5 feet per year and is exceptionally strong and disease resistant. A local nursery had the tree on sale which offset the staggering $400 be for a 2.5" diameter tree. It's hard not to be impatient with the maple tree. I would love to see it 15 years from now. Hopefully it'll be about 30 ft high and about 20 ft around. It should provide some great darken in the front yard and add to the curb challenge of the house. I haven't gone extreme with any of my "color" efforts. The tree is more than most populate can do but we can all work to live a little more responsibly. Most municipalities.

Having two girls is a lot of fun we spend our time together playing learning and laughing. The days undergo been hot and the nights no so much this summer and with so many family members not here to overlap the memories with we thought a communicate would be a great way to act you all up to go out with everything that happens in the Marshall family domiciliate. We wish you enjoy the little peak into our lives. Brittany and Chris For my birthday this year my parents bought me a beautiful. As you may denote we received one as a wedding gift but it didn't make it very desire. It was beautiful why it lasted but alas it died (I sure wish that isn't a sign). Anyway I took a couple of shots before the tree... After the tree. I ordain keep you updated on the progress over the coming year. It should be beautiful next year. So I am not very good at keeping our family history written drink but I love to scrapbook so I thought this would be a great way to merge the 2 and hopefully act some history for the girls to enjoy later in life.
