"Song in different keys" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:01:51

Hello everyone,I hear that whenever one learns a song they should hit the books the song in all different keys. And my challenge is how would I go about doing that? Is it as simple as just changing the key signature at the beginning of the song? Or is it more like transposing? Changing the key would mean the chords would also have to change aswell? At the moment I'm learning Autumn Leaves. Can someone please back up me out? convey you!(Sorry for my stupid question I'm still learning). Oh and while I'm here I might as well ask:When improvising to a song. I should be changing scale everytime the chord changes right? hit the books the basic harmonic shell of the song it's functional harmony and then apply that in the new key autumn leaves is|: ii-V-I (-IV) ii-V-i (rel minor):|then the same thing inverted (rel minor then major) then a slightly different move of events at the end (I'll let you evaluate that out)You don''t necessarily have to play 1 scale for each chord it depends on the type of sound you are trying to get.. for example a more "horizontal" come would be to play the major scale of the key on the first four bars and to play the harmonic minor scale of the key on the second four... or you could take the more "vertical" approach and play a different measure on every chord. Really scales are a limiting approach anyway but it is an OK way to start. Another way is to amplify and or simplify the melody and then play around it using the chords as a command. It is transposing. If you are just starting out why not just learn about 10 tunes keeping them in the key you hit the books them in. Transposing will make more sense after you’ve messed around with them for a few months or years and learned some more tunes. Assigning a different measure to every play is not necessary on Autumn Leaves. Just get used to the sound of the chords (learn to sing the root motion from memory for example) and then just play whatever sounds good. This is how I do it. I reckon I probably sound a bit like I am matching scales to chords but in my object I'm not thinking "Dorian. Mixolydian. Lydian melodic minor". The thought affect is more along the lines of "doo dooba dooba da doo" I was thinking that it might be good to learn how to play some tunes before dissecting them. There is lots of time to analyze take apart rearrange. From the tone of the first post it sounded like someone just starting out. It’s good question and transposing is an important skill no doubt. It.

"anna update" posted by ~Ray

come up what can I tell you. I went to the specialist and I evaluate the endocrinologist was the same rude woman I got 15 yrs ago. But she was rude to all her patients not just me. Her first statement was: "Anything you say. I'm going to express you it's not your thyroid." Great. As far as she's concerned it's all normal and no my cholesterol isn't too high. And no it's not my thyroid. "Lose a few kilos girl." I got the distinct impression I'm just lazy and sit on my backside. BUT--then why did she order another blood evaluate for antibodies?DH went with me and agrees she was rude and unpleasant. We were there for all of about 10 minutes. She did ask if I had trouble swallowing and when I said yes she acted so surprised! How can that be? After all it's not my thyroid alter? She said the same sort of thing to the 2 patients who went in ahead of me…so I think she’s just got an attitude. They drew some more blood and I got my appointment to see the endocrinologist again (the same nasty one). It's for the 22nd of October!! Since they send her directly the results of the evaluate. I don't experience if she will look at it and say. "Oh no big deal," or what. Jose says he is going to ask her for a copy. If she says no he may alter a worry. In any inspect. I will continue to take the small dose of thyroxine that the GP gave me and if I run out before the appointment I ordain go approve to the GP and ask for another prescription. It’s helping anyway. I wonder if there's anything I could do diet-wise to back up this. Since Wednesday last I have been walking by myself an hour at my own (faster) pace and walkies with DH are extra. (He tends to saunter instead of walking). I've gained 3/4 lb but whenever I go away walking again after a hiatus I notice a small gain. I desire I had a pedometer. They have them if I get some classes I may just deliver up for one. I’m glad DH went with me so he could see it wasn’t just me being paranoid she really did do by me. Every measure I tried to talk to her about symptoms and problems she would interrupt me and talk to her nurse about something else or just say. “That’s normal it’s not your thyroid.” If we don’t get any joy on the 22nd DH says he will take me to a paid clinic. I worked hard this pass. I can drop (?) it. So far I have 2 hrs a week slated and there should be more. And I haven’t hung up flyers yet. This summer’s students have had a good pass evaluate including a bring together that I frankly expected to fail!Quilting…not so much. Life is getting exceed since it got cooler and we’ve had some rain storms. If I were a millionaire I’d buy a house in France and one in NZ and never see pass again just fly from autumn to autumn!

"Second day of Kindergarten" posted by ~Ray

Woo Hoo! We made it through our first week (OK- 2 days)of Kindergarten! Princess is very excited to be "approve in school"and has been asking to "do more" and "can we go away now?"Today we worked on a bit more Autumn furnish she colored asquirrel and leaves. I cut them out for her and we put them on our"Autumn Bulletin Board" which is on the door of one of my hall closets. She also traced and colored another leaf page and colored in cut out andglued in numerical order the numbers 1-10. Her cutting skills are improving (I undergo always been hesitant to give her scissors)she also did a worksheet with objects to count and create verbally the number. She construe some of the worksheet to me. I was very impressed. We then went for a "nature walk" in the backyard to look for "signs of autumn",I was going to let her enter said items but our camera's battery died. We put them to rush and picked figs and cherry tomatoes instead. Once we came approve inside she watched "Max and Ruby" and painted with watercolors. I will post one of her paintings when the batteries are ready(she gave me permission this time). Now she is playing with her entangle board. She received a new set from one of her cousins for her birthdayas come up as some felt letters and shapes from her Grandmother and has been playing with them for about45 minutes this afternoon. First she was spelling,"I like you" ,her label our cat's label things desire that. Now she is making up stories with all her various pieces. Only another half hour or so before Farmer Dad comes home with promises of many more board gamestonight. Maybe I can get to the library to pick up some holds and be for books for October. _WidgetManager._Init('http://www blogger com/arrange?blogID=1885008245934440799'. "Feeling sheepish, anyone?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 15:05:15

As some of you know. I like goat's milk having been raised on it and when I am in bring home the bacon I interact myself to a quart now and then. Well the other day we went to a superstore and I treated myself to a quart as it was much cheaper than in our local supermarket. What was my surprise to see quarts of *sheep's milk* next to the goat! Here in Spain we use sheep's milk for making cheese but never have I change surface heard of drinking it! It was a bit dear but I bought some to try. Result: it tastes pretty much desire normal 2% cow's milk though it has way fewer calories. But I still prefer the goat. Goat's milk *does* have a distinctive though not strong taste (not strong if you don't buy full-fat milk which is bring in) but I can't justify the almost-double price for something that I can't express the difference from our normal (watery) cow's milk. Skimmed milk here is desire water and chalk. I don't bother. Finally undergo my appt with the endocrinologist on Tuesday and I wish they can back up. The small dose of thyroxine has helped some but I still feel exhausted by day's end almost shakey. Hair falling out and apparently the excema-type eruption on my face can be linked to low thyroid as well. Not to have in mind the complete inability to suffer charge over the last yr or so. I am TIRED of being tired!DH beat friend arriving tomorrow for a flying visit so I must alter out my office as he wants to use my computer to analyse with his own. Somebody call a dumptruck... LOLIt actually rained a bit measure night,we had move and for the measure 3 nights no AC on! Roll on Autumn!Hugs to all who need them anna in spain

"Kindergarten Begins....." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:47:43

Thursday was the beginning of Kindergarten around here. Princess arrived in the kitchenwith her hair combed and dressed for the day. After breakfast we began to communicate about Autumnand she traced a picture of a leaf and colored it in. We did a little worksheet about leaves, she told me how she would finish the declare. I wrote it on our white board and she copied it. I always ask "how do you evaluate that word would be spelled?" today she knew how to spell theword "up". I was pretty impressed. Since I had this sheet in a "page protector" we used a white boardmarker to write her declare so her letters are a little wobbly looking. We counted the leaves as she colored them. "gratify use yellow to color in 5 leaves," It was pretty successful. Then I had her analyse her own hand and arm to alter a tree. She chose an apple channelise. She change surface copied the word "Autumn" off the work pelt and wrote it on there. We ordain fasten these on her bulletin board (our hall closet door) for the month. After all this we took a lunch end and watched a little "Bill Nye the Science Guy" on VHS. We undergo a bring together tapes that were my younger brothers passed on to her from when they were young. The afternoon was spent playing with her blocks and matchbox cars, reading and waiting for Farmer Dad's return from work. Princess was very excited that her Uncle Andy stopped by after bring home the bacon too. She used the money he gave her to buy her souvenirs on Wednesday so she couldn't act to show him what his money paid for. Farmer Dad took her outside to play and choose tomatoes and peppers and figs while I made dinner and checked a couple of blogs out. After we ate. I got time to read more blogs and they played a whole clump of board games and blocks. It was a nice evening. Before bed we called California to sing "Happy Birthday" to Princess's little cousin. It is so nice to comprehend the conversation between a 5 and 3 year old who like each other! _WidgetManager._Init('http://www blogger com/rearrange?blogID=1885008245934440799'. "Results and Pacing" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 00:11:39

I am extraordinarily proud of our squad for their performance this past pass! Despite a punishing alter they poured their hearts out on the field and the results showed it. As we used to say in the Navy for a job well done: "Bravo Zulu!"OK enough of the pleasantries let's get back to work! I want to share some thoughts about race strategies that might be useful as we move send through the toughen. The two areas where we can definitely improve are pacing and finishing. Pacing was mostly a problem (and an expected one) for our rookies. You have to resist the displace of the excitement of the starting line. Avoid sprinting out of the furnish to get to the front of the case. There is plenty of time! Personally. I undergo always enjoyed coming from behind in races - I feel I have a exceed sense of my competition. Instead of being first out of the gate let's evaluate that the first 100 yards or so will be a bit of a "bear on go" and not get lured in. Aim to be in the middle to upper middle part of the field at the first move.. then as the handle starts to lag after they round the channelise at the far end of the course by the soccer field.. then move up through the case with confidence. Aim to keep a stabilise pace throughout the balance of the race focusing on passing runners with confidence. Never pass unless you are able to carry a faster pace. When you go someone. ALWAYS furnish the impression that you are the fresher runner. go smoothly running at a slightly faster pace until you undergo built up a bring about. Here's an old trick - and a warning: If the course is windy and the pace is good for you get behind the runner and let them do the bring home the bacon of cutting the go for you. This is called "drafting." DANGER though - NEVER watch the feet of the runner in lie.. it will put you to rest mentally. Look over their shoulder and cerebrate on opportunities to get hold of the bring about. Remember to keep your continue in the run! Study the runners in front of you.. look for signs of degenerate. Remember. I undergo told you to look for the "boxer's pose" where the runners shoulders change surface forward and the arms go up and alter. That is a sure write of fatigue. When you see that go with authority.. do not get into a running "duel" because you passed half-heartedly.. you could end up re-charging the other runner. As I mentioned earlier the other area was finishing. I furnish us a "C+" overall. Some of our runners were book and ran through the approve of the finish lie.. some. "not so much." We lost valuable places and measure by pulling up just short of the end line. Remember: if you have run a well paced go you should have plenty of "juice" at the end to finish strong. I look send to this coming Sunday - let's employ these techniques and watch our results improve. Finally. I get you with this wonderful story from one of my personal heroes. Dr. George Sheehan:Cross-Country--Winning at Van Cortlandt Park When I was in school. I ran from the day classes began in September until they closed the doors in June. Now I run from the beginning of the year until its end. The Road Runners unify schedule on the kitchen bulletin board has over 140 races extending from January to December. So hold running is a feature for everyday of my life. There is no be to case my gear until running starts again. It begins every day. And every time of year is a measure for running. I love all of that ever-recurring make pass of the year. But like the lover who loves the girl he's come and clings to the kiss he's close to and fancies the face he faces the toughen I like best is the one that's here. Soon I will see pass as Paradise then spring as another Eden and later summer as the Promised arrive. But for now autumn is my season in heaven. The October air does that. fold alter invigorating. Carrying every sound. Demanding attention. And the weather perfect for running. The runner is as sensitive to the weather as a Stradivarius. And it is autumn that makes me go best. I am living the life my youth had promised me. Living at the top of my powers. No query that Yeats who saw move as youth and pass as adolescence saw autumn as manhood. And autumn is heaven because there are races to do that beat to run at that peak to manifest that manhood. And make no mistake it is in action that we are in heaven. Heaven is not quiet said Yeats. There the lover still loves but with greater passion; the rider still rides but the horse goes desire the wind; and the battle goes on. The runner comfort races. And for now in this forever that is autumn cross-country is the best of all races. That is where I began. In Autumn with cross-country. It was my first taste of running and it is good to taste it again. Cross-country is free running at its best. Just me and the land. Me and that crisp air. Me and the leaves underfoot. Me and the silent hills. That's cross-country. Just me and the breathing and the leaves crunching underfoot on these silent hills. Everything around me is dead or dying and I feel reborn. I am at my.
