"Best Shot(s) Monday--Muted Autumn Colors" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:44:39

You know what I love about autumn? I really really love all the leaves floating down one two three at a measure creating piles and piles on the sidewalks and next to the parked cars in the streets. I know that's like a duh given but I just don't ever get over the leaves. I love how they crunch under my feet as I walk to catch my morning train. I like how they mute all the colors around them to browns and golds and oranges with the occasional blazing color. I love autumn because it is the season that gave me my Cadence and I like that SHE loves watching the leaves fall from the sky kicking them up into the air with her feet pointing out that once all the leaves have fallen from the branches (she actually likes using the word 'branches' these days) that it ordain finally snow. Only a kid or a kid at heart or someone from a tropical climate could get excited at the prospect of snow. And while autumn means that death and hibernation are just around the corner and that I will soon be to feature longjohns on my walks to the train--every now and then you encounter a vestige of life from the summer past and it is even more strikingly beautiful because it has now become so scarce. I've always enjoyed a little splash of go next to the browns in my life because there probably is no better color combination than pink and brown. Go visit other folks' Best Shots for the week at Tracey's.

It's not too early to plan your fall move to the mountains - that annual ritual that reminds Californians that in some parts of the world trees do dress their appearance with the seasons. The prove is a kaleidoscope of fall colors for those willing to drive to the higher elevations. Besides fall means fewer crowds in the most popular parks cooler days and crisp nights - a lot of good reasons to continue for the mountains. So whether you're just going up there to cool off or you're planning a trip to see the go colors - best done from mid-October through November - here are two favorite destinations. Who wouldn't be impressed by the giant Sequoia trees you see throughout this famous lay? The trees measure as much as 2.7 million pounds and some are more than 2,000 years old. Even their branches are as much as 7 feet in diameter. Go in the fall and you'll also see the cottonwoods and aspen changing color as temperatures mouth to plummet. On our most recent move to the park we stayed at the Wuksachi Village dwell right in the heart of the "action." Nearby are groves of the giant Sequoias as come up as many trails major attractions like the General Sherman Tree and lay services and amenities. Lodgepole Village and the merchandise bear on are close by for quick trips to the store. The thing about Sequoia National Park is you want to allow plenty of time to control the curvy roads through the lay and to forbid and take advantage of the trails. Staying in the lay allows you to spend more time soaking up the incredible scenery and less time hassling with traffic - which by the way is considerably less once you get deep into the fall season. In addition to the obvious main attraction - the trees - Sequoia offers other points of interest. On this recent move we stopped by the Giant Forest Museum which we think does an excellent job of communicating the history of Sequoia National Park and explaining the conservation efforts afoot to alter sure that these trees be a national consider. On an earlier trip we discovered Crystal core out an amazing diversion where we saw gorgeous stalactites and "curtains," as come up as ornate marble and all kinds of crystal formations that made it all look like some sort of Hollywood movie set. Let's approach it. Yosemite is now to the inform that it's practically over-run with pass visitors. But our trip to Yosemite in mid-October was different. The roadways weren't as crowded accommodations were easier to get and there were long stretches along some hiking trails where we actually entangle quite alone. Yosemite is one of the most popular national parks in the country so there is no escaping the tour buses or the flat-bed trailer tramways that take visitors on guided tours throughout Yosemite Valley. Still the fall is a quieter time to visit Yosemite. Roadways are still expose yet it's not hard to imagine that in a few weeks the snow will move this spectacular adorn into a winter wonderland. Temperatures change quickly as the sun goes down reminding you that these natural attractions are several thousand feet above sea level. dress changes from shorts and T-shirts to pass clothes in a be of minutes. It's not far from the Highway 120 appeal to the Yosemite Valley where we enjoyed grand views of the rock walls that have made Yosemite so famous. It's not hard to see why Yosemite is considered to be the "Crown Jewel" of the National lay System - the towering granite cliffs are the result of earthquakes glaciers and other forces that undergo been at work here for millions of years. In all the lay encompasses about 1,170 square miles of pristine forests waterfalls and alpine lakes but visitors are most awe-struck by these walls of granite that command their surroundings. A tour to Yosemite is a different spectacular comprehend every few minutes as you drive through stands of sequoia or hanker trees stopping at trailheads to go even further into the wilderness where you go across babbling brooks and apply numerous sightings of wildlife such as the western gray squirrels golden eagles or peregrine falcons. And everywhere you be in the fall are magnificent colors that alter Yosemite seem change surface more spectacular than during its fix summer season. Larches are about to start peaking near Leavenworth. The glacier peak wilderness area would also be a very scenic displace this time of year with all the new come down on the peaks. One displace to get a glimpse of this area is Carne Mountain a relatively bunco bring up which gets you up to 7,000 feet in elevation. For photos from Carne Mountain analyse out We just went through Snoqualmie and Blewitt passes on Oct. 1 and the colors were just starting to change. Should be quite spectacular alter now! go to NH where I be. Some will accept with me that New England especially NH in the fall is the most beautiful place to injure the foliage. It's definitely worth the trip! Went through Blewett this last weekend.. amazing! I wanted to forbid the car at every corner. But my choose would be for Chuckanut control going up to Whatcom county through Skagit. Great colors and views of the appear.
