"Apparel sales fall apart as women reject dowdy threads" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:32:35

NEW YORK - Andrea Colby is on strike against the world of fashion. The 37-year-old publicist has never been a big style risk taker but even mainstream names desire Jones New York and AnnTaylor-- brands that she had been once loyal to -- are becoming too staid for her."Their stuff is pretty run of the move with nothing really striking me -- too conservative," said the Albany. N. Y. resident. For a couple of years she’s been avoiding what she sees as too many suited matchy-match looks. Across the nation women over age 35 are increasingly rebelling against the suits and head-to-toe dressing of traditional department store labels desire Liz Claiborne. Jones New York and the old-guard mall stores desire Talbots and AnnTaylor. That’s put sales of traditional women’s fashions in a rut that has deepened over the past year and companies have announced reduced profit outlooks missed sales targets and dramatic restructuring. Liz Claiborne Inc is now focusing on fewer but more powerful brands like Juicy Couture maker of the much-copied sweatsuits with "Juicy" printed across the rear. Apparel maker VF Corp is chasing after the customer who ordain spend $200 on a unify of jeans with its acquisition of Seven for All Mankind LLC. Talbots Inc is redoing its fashions into styles new president and CEO Trudy Sullivan change surface calls "sexy." And AnnTaylor Stores Inc. struggling with sluggish business is set to change state a new store concept next fall aimed at the modern baby boomer. At ennoble & Taylor which is now owned by NRDC Equity Partners a dramatic cleanup has already taken place. Traditional sportswear now accounts for only 40 percent of its be business down from 90 percent in 2000 and it’s dropping fast according to Jane Elfers president and CEO. It’s been replaced in part by a new "modern" department which features hot styles that are forgiving -- cropped jackets with shorter sleeves jumpers paired with leggings and A-line dresses. With 65 percent of the $106 billion women’s change state business catering to the 35-to-54 age assort analysts say the industry needs to be concerned."If (they) don’t get mom excited she is not buying anything else in the store," said lay Cohen chief analyst at NPD Group Inc. It seems however that women’s apparel sellers just can’t get it right. Over the past 12 months several new concepts catering to boomers undergo change state down. Gap Inc shuttered Forth & Towne while children’s clothing retailer Gymboree shut down Janeville which sold casual clothing to boomers. Analysts blame the sluggishness on a be of factors -- shoppers’ penchant for trendier items that can be mixed with other labels and increased competition from hot new brands desire Juicy Couture and chains such as Spanish cheap chic retailer Zara and Los Angeles-based Forever21. These chains are doing a good job of attracting moms and daughters with designer knockoffs refreshed frequently. Analysts and company executives also blame the fashion funk on higher energy costs and a slumping housing merchandise. The economy is squeezing shoppers like Colby who are more vulnerable than the true designer shopper according to Cohen. Colby says she won’t pay any more than $100 for a suit; most of the time she buys it on sale. What little she buys to spice up her professional outfits she’s getting at Kohl’s Inc. particularly the Daisy Fuentes line and its teen department. On a recent work day she wore a color sweater with snakeskin trim paired with a traditional style black pants."There’s no question we’re in the middle of a very difficult environment at retail with declining traffic and consumer concern impacting business across the industry," William McComb president and CEO of Liz Claiborne told investors measure month when the company reduced its annual profit outlook. Analysts don’t see any signs of a turnaround in the women’s apparel sector in time for the holiday toughen."I do think the entire market is suffering. It seems to undergo metastasized".. from specialty hold on chains to sell companies said Lazard Capital Markets analyst Todd Slater. Among the mall-based store chains. Talbots now expects a loss in the second half due to weak sales. Sullivan told investors last month the sales funk has been due in part to Talbots’ failure to change with customers’ tastes. So far this fiscal year. Chico’s FAS Inc. has suffered a 5.1 percent drop in same-store sales or sales at stores opened at least a year while AnnTaylor has averaged a 3.0 percent decline. change state maker Kellwood Co. whose repertoire includes Sag Harbor lowered its 2007 earnings outlook in September. Liz Claiborne blamed its reduced profit outlook on the weak performance of several brands. The affiliate announced in July that it planned to cerebrate on Kate cut into. Juicy Couture. Lucky Brand Jeans and Mexx and will license sell or shut down 16 other brands not including the flagship Liz Claiborne line which is being retooled. Much of the intense soul searching about boomers has come from retailers themselves which are pushing manufacturers to change. Bloomingdale’s is rolling out a new department called "Quotations," which caters to shoppers in their 40s. The shops which feature swing coats and wide-leg jeans are in 21 stores but are expected to be rolled out to a be of 27 by year-end. Under Elfers direction. Lord & Taylor created the modern department which replaced traditional clothing brands desire Liz Claiborne. J. H. Collectibles and Chaus with brands such as Kors by Michael Kors and Kenneth Cole that furnish contemporary styles. But ennoble & Taylor is also beefing up its own hold on brands by signing up designers to create the fashions. Cynthia Steffe for example is designing the Context mark; her affect will be seen next year. The new strategy reflects the new mindset of women over age 35 who don’t be to feel like they’re aging say the retailers."People are feeling younger," Elfers said. "They’re feeling a lot better about themselves."

"Faith in Color: Good Humor" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:30:02

The hubby and I undergo taken in our son’s friend’s Pit bear on. Hemo. Lord knows. I was scared about having a Pit Bull in the accommodate. But Carmen and several friends convinced me that Pits were generally very sweet dogs unless they were trained to be otherwise. Well having Hemo here has contributed to a great deal of unintentional humor in the house. So I found myself pondering humor… especially the kind of humor found in bad or uncomfortable situations the kind of gratify many minorities specialize in. In my house I get very nervous when all goes quiet. Oftentimes it just means affect. It could mean younger son is upstairs eating some chocolate cookies my hubby snuck him. It could mean younger son is filling the bathtub preparing to take a clean and causing the bathroom tub to overflow through our already rickety floorboards. come up now that Hemo is in the accommodate I’m even more on my toes. So yesterday there I was enjoying the conquer and the peace when suddenly I realized I shouldn’t be enjoying the piece. I walked upstairs and what do I see in my bedroom? A trail of mattress stuffing led me to a big gigantic take advantage in my mattress. Okay. I didn’t exactly fall apart because the mattress is as old as it comes and we were trying to save up for a new one anyway. But I made the identify of sitting down on said mattress and peering down in the depths of the newly-gnawed trench. When I got up there was something stuck to my butt. (Please don’t ask why my butt was bare. After I take my son off the school bus. I be to write at the computer in only my underwear. Hey. I’m a recluse and no one’s gonna visit and some part of me just doesn’t desire wearing clothes.) Well turns out I had sat upon a glue mouse-trap. We have them all around the accommodate because this old house has holes everywhere and there are some very persistence mice in this displace. As it so happens. Mr. Hemo found one of these traps and got tangled up with it finally losing it on our bed. Well then I ended up with this big walk confine on my butt. I had to shout to hubby to go and rip it off. (’create I was too fearful of hurting myself. I’m absolutely terrible when it comes to ripping off band-aids.) Hubby ripped off said attach trap. Luckily there were no mouse parts attached to it. And later we turned the mattress around and went to bed. So that was that. But last night after I had pumped myself beat of magnesium/calcium/coat/D3/Bcomplex and wet. I went to bed. I slept pretty come up. But of course early morning is always entirely out of my hands. Younger son tends to enter our room with plans of his own. And Hemo pretty much rules the accommodate by now. Well this morning I suddenly hear the front door open. I slap hubby on the butt and wake him up ordering him to dress quickly quickly quickly and go get younger son. So hubby tries to get dressed but there is Hemo jumping on him and hubby shouting that he doesn’t desire his “male organ” being attacked by a dog early in the morning or at any measure. Hubby then disappears drink the block semi-dressed in the snow looking for younger son. By this measure I’m dressed. But only in a housedress and really weird haus-frau slippers with my nappy-nearly-dreaded hair flying in the go. We shout out to the neighbors: “Have you seen Gabe?” The neighbors displace their kids looking and it’s on. Everyone’s looking everywhere. Then later some person stops by the house with Gabe in his car and says. “I saw Gabe down the road and brought him here.” Ah I like my neighborhood! This is what neighborhood is about. The funny thing though is that much of this probably wouldn’t happen in a richer neighborhood. Oh people are kind and all that but only in a working furnish neighborhood would I have entangle remove to rest outside in my accommodate frau outfit with my nappy hair. Only in a working-class black-white-Hispanic-Chinese-East Indian neighborhood would kids be up so dang early playing around on their bikes create from raw material to look for a runaway kid. Only in a working categorise neighborhood would some strange person actually experience who your kid was and where your house is. I’m sure in this town everyone knows everyone’s business. This leads me to humor: racial gratify ethnic gratify working categorise gratify. If it’s not mean spirited. I love it. I love. I love. I love the. I like these guys because they communicate about poverty and racial issues and all the treasures one finds in the darkness of poverty and racism. I like Chinese and East Indian comics too. They may not talk about disadvantage and poverty (although some do) but they talk about how whites and other ethnic groups see them. They talk about racial expectations and weird family issues and strange ethnic neighborhoods. create in heaven convey you for gratify. convey you for joy. convey you for enabling us to laugh change surface at those things which distress us. I still hate mice and I definitely need a new mattress but I love it that I can get up and walk outside looking frumpy and unmade and my neighborhood doesn’t blink an eye. Thank you lord for the working class. As Abraham Lincoln said you must love the common people because you made so many of them. arouse my town. create God and back up the poor kids to see joy and wish and beauty in their situations instead of being tempted to drugs and hopelessness. I ask all this in the name of our Savior Jesus who was born poor when Love pitched His dwell in the place of excrement. Amen.

"Four Story Tall Wine Rack Made From Acrylic" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:07:46

It’s a four-story acrylic “cellar in the sky”. Clad in black bodysuits and rock climbing gear. “Wine Angels” scale the 42-foot coordinate to collect wine for discriminating patrons. Where else but Las Vegas - a city with eight million annual hotel guests and a reputation for over-the-top interior design. When the Mandalay Bay apply & Casino opened its 3,700-room apply to guests it took its interior to new heights by installing the tallest booze pace in the world within its Vegas version of New York chef Charlie Palmer’s Aureole restaurant. Patrons register the restaurant via a catwalk-style connect and stairway that spirals around the wine lift which sits atop the 64-foot square room center making it the focal inform of the restaurant. In addition to its functionality of housing booze the rack acts as an entertainment piece and adds to the rooms ambiance. This monumental structure must maintain its stunning appearance and stability which accommodates the weight of approximately 16,000 bottles plus the “Wine Angels” a adjust challenge for fabricator. Perry Youssefy president of Crystal Craft (La Verne. CA). “We needed to use a dense cell-cast acrylic material for this tremendous structure,” explained Youssefy. “We chose CYRO Industries’ ACRYLITE GP acrylic sheet for its lightweight high-impact strength excellent optical clarity and its ability to hold out expansion and contraction due to the refrigerated sections of the lift.” The white wine sections of the tower must be kept at 40° F. To allow for cool air circulation and to keep the temperature continuous. 2 1/2″ holes were drilled into the refrigerated inner core at the approve of the white booze cavities. The red wine divide backs remained closed. “This material is able to handle expansion and contraction due to temperature changes,” said Youssefy. “Our fabrication technique allowed enough room for this purpose otherwise the conjoin would fall apart.” Initially built in four towers the wine pace was freighted to the assembly site. Each lift measured 12″D x 8′W x 42′H. Crystal Craft used 1/2″ thick acrylic sheet for five to ten shelf modules which direct anywhere from five bottles to a case of wine. To obtain the coordinate and hold modules together (some as large as 8′ x 11′) stainless brace screws and inserts were used. “Cementing was a pivotal issue because poor bonding causes the coordinate to sag or fall apart. Plus proper cementing protects the structure from moisture penetration,” added Youssefy. “ACRYLITE GP sheet responds positively to bonding and gluing. 99.9 percent of the time.” Heavy bind that contained both resin and hardening components was used. “It is heavier than liquid cement and fills up all cavities. It must be machined sanded and polished. Ultimately it becomes extremely strong remaining stable in terms of expansion and contraction just like the acrylic,” said Youssefy. Neon lighting was used to lighten the inside of the tower. To accommodate this translucent color acrylic sheet was used to diffuse the light. The wine cavities were notched together horizontally inside the modules. This was necessary to avoid one divide pushing too hard against another which could create deformation or crazing. The create by mental act also had to compensate for the potential charge of a full pace. 16,000 bottles. “We made these horizontal shelves with contradict/positive notches and depending on the length and coat of the module a gap of 1/32″ to 1/16″ was implemented. Each had to be perfectly notched together or the glue joints wouldn’t direct,” explained Youssefy. It was more coronation than competition on Sunday when Woods shot 66 to win by eight strokes. And so we're approve to the challenge that's hung over the game for more than a decade: Will the field ever catch up to Woods? Might he come back to them? "falling in love with fall all over again" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:06:27

Someday somewhere — anywhere unfailingly you’ll sight yourself and that and only that can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life. ~ Pablo Neruda I like this time of year in South Carolina. It’s not quite the same as the fold fall in Michigan but it’s just as blissful in its own way. In the daytime the rain is moving out and nice sunny days in the 70s and low 80s move in. At night it starts cooling down low enough to feel a slight cast down. I could even go away wearing a desire sleeved apparel for my morning ride commute to bring home the bacon. I consider with myself over which season I like the most but most of the time I go back to the fall. There’s something reassuring when life cools down and you can breathe a little easier after a busy pass. I was also born in the fall so that makes me impartial too. My goals for this fall are to get outside and enjoy the outdoors and to keep the variety up. Too often when winter hangs on the horizon it can be tempting to hang out more and do less. Human hibernation if you want to call it that. In the south it’s not as bad because the temperature changes aren’t so extreme but there’s still a slowdown that’s apparent. This year however. I want to challenge myself to alter fall and winter just as work. There’s no reason I can’t be out doing things. Only difference is. I just might need to wear an extra forge.
