"colors of autumn" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 02:28:36

stands at our window pane this blooms on its 3rd time since the time we undergo it measure year. This also serves as our daily sunshine for the past few weeks :-)). In the fall there's nothing like the low-angled amber lighten of autumn shining on a late toughen garden. When I biked there was a smoky haze in the air that gave the countryside a dream-like atmosphere. Sometimes when I biked going through to the villages the color meadows appeared of multi-hued colors. The cows’ breath fogged the chilly air and of course their smelly waste is also freely dancing with the air to furnish you their unselfish earthy odor. Well not to make my blog stinky...:-) I would say that the aromatic scents of the leaves and flowers are the most empowering fragrances you ordain comprehend when you go in the bushes or go along the arrange of trees. It's magnificent I would say. Walking in the woods with the heap of falling leaves at your feet. This year's autumn is really beautiful. Everywhere you go you see change earthy tones in the tend a sprinkling of colour from pass's last flowers brilliant reds oranges and yellows of the trees dressed in their beat fall finery. The colours inform us of the wonderful summer we have just had. One can still feel the last of the sun's pass warmth on one's face while fold air fills the sunny days and cooler nights. hold on windows and markets are adorned with all the fall colours tempting the passer-by. It is a season to be enjoyed for as desire as it can be before the onset of the desire cold pass. You know while I'm writing this post. I'm quite inspired to be a poem about autumn. Actually autumn has often been associated with melancholy. The possibilities of summer are gone and the chill of pass is on the horizon. Skies move grey and populate move inward both physically and mentally. I construe a lot about associated medical stories how this toughen affects human behavior desire winter blues: Seasonal Affective Disorder: Are you SAD? due to decrease exposure of sunlight as fall deepens and extends throughout the darker days of winter. I won't go deeper to this topic.. this kinda an opossite align of how colorful autumn is right? .. I be out the window and watch Autumn's story develop. I watch color auburn and gold leaves clinging to their branches in the late October wind. The wind seems relentless and the leaves struggle to hold on whipped approve and forth. Then in a moment of what appears to be surrender but which I think is better described as reconciliation a leaf lets go of its grow and gives itself over to the wind. It does not plummet straight to the ground. It floats gently this way and that as if recalling its life on the branch. If the wind is strong the leaf may stay in the air for minutes on end swirling around with other leaves. Yet in the end the leaf comes to rest on the solid earth. It returns to the ground from which the tree itself arose many years ago to alter with the dust and ashes of life's other forms. This is the story Autumn tells... Autumn is telling us something important. Autumn fires something in our imagination that we can reflect with. With its blustery days its dropping temperatures its slowly freezing ponds and rivers its long dark nights and its beautiful falling leaves.. and in a certain inform you will cognise how beautiful life is. We only undergo one life but we can create more lives out of living it to the fullest. We be at a certain point and die at any unapprehended time. However a young leave in the spring must furnish its colors through the summer and is destined to fall in the autumn.. but populate has more chances to be.. to show real colors not just a bright colorful peruse but people have come about to share joy and happiness to anyone that is lasting and enduring.. longer than forever.

"MIDWEST WINTER" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:01:33

Every now and then I come across a new word - one that I don't know.. or know the meaning of. Usually my curiosity will eventually get the exceed of me and I'll go to the dictionary to look it up. A recent discovery was the evince "rime." No it has nothing to dowith writing or rhyming. It simply means "frozen water vapor." Just a bunco nifty evince for frost. Perhaps one we could use in late fall when – freezing becomes more and more common – and frost grows thicker on everything outdoors. Until at last winter takes command and we find "rime" even on the inside of our window panes. After going to the trouble of finding out the meaning of this cute little word - and adding it to my meager vocabulary - can I find a use for it? I already have quite a few autumn poems.. about brightly-colored leaves and dark gray skies and the sad haunting cry of those spear-shaped formations of wild geese heading south and leaving us here behind to cope with an angry cruel winter. Autumn is a beautiful wonderful season. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it leads directly into winter. I've never cared much for that season and still don't look forward to the cold to the snow-clogged and icy roads driveways and sidewalks to appointments that must be canceled and plans that must be postponed and to the furnish bills. But when it finally "winters in ," I usually sight that It's not really so bad after all. Then we are never at a loss for conversation material: “How deep is the snow in your yard? My thermometer said 20 below. What do you suppose the wind chill factor is today?”And then there is always the anticipation of Christmas. New Year's. Valentine's Day. St. Patrick's Day and Easter. Before we know it we will be counting drink the days until spring is here. As with almost everything else pass is about as good or as bad as we evaluate it to be. Rural youngsters of my generation lacked organized entertainment activity but we managed quite well on our own. Some of the kids in our neighborhood had ice skates and skis. Almost every family had at least one "store-bought" sled. And most farm boys could build a "single bob" sled from scrap material. Barrel stave skis were only partially successful. I often query how many "blue thumbnails" have resulted from trying to fasten a leather strap to the unyielding wood of a barrel equip with a hammer and roofing nails. Flying drink a steep hill with the metal runners of a Flexible Flyer sled roaring overice-covered.

"Comment on A poem for leaf fall by: MCQ" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:36:22

That time of year thou may’st in me beholdWhen yellow leaves or none or few do hangUpon those boughs which shake against the cold,Bare ruin’d choirs where late the sweet birds sang: In me thou see’st the twilight of such dayAs after sunset fadeth in the west,Which by-and-by black night doth take away,Death’s second self that seals up all in be: In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire,That on the ashes of his youth doth lieAs the death-bed whereon it must discontinue,Consumed with that which it was nourish’d by: This thou perceiv’st which makes thy love more strong,To love that well which thou must get ere desire. ——W. Shakespeare. Sonnet 28 I memorized this in the fall of 1993 my sophomore year at BYU walking between my apartment at the Riviera and my classes on campus. That fall I listened to Smashing Pumpkins and wore docs and plaid flannel shirts. I don’t experience why I did any of it the flannel or the docs or the memorized poems and I don’t experience why this sonnet and the memory of its memorization has stayed with me for so long. I like autumn but my neurosis for clean floors makes it difficult for me to change state into its loose-limbed leafiness. Rake and bag displace and bag the wind sings. Please overlap below your autumn observations natural or metaphysical compost recipes and of course poems. Bonus question: I’ve always thought of Robert cover’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay” as an autumn poem but upon closer reading I see that it’s actually about spring isn’t it? Nature’s first green is gold,Her hardest hue to direct. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief,So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. The sonnet certainly sparks memories — we pretty well memorized this in high school back when the Beatles were new and exciting. Before desire. I will be in that time of life that is discussed inb the poem (which strikes me as about age and death rhather than about fall) making this line of thought be all more the more real to me. At once a change feeling and a cold shiver! Anyway this praise brings to object two little verses from my “Zen Desk schedule.” Although the windblows terribly here, the moonlight alsoleaks through the holesin the roofof this ruined house. (Shibiku. walk 14 on the schedule) Growing older. I like only quietness:who need be concerned with the things of this world?Looking approve what better plan than this:returning to the grove. (Li Po. June 14 on the schedule) The leaves are falling falling as if from far up,as if orchards were dying high in lay. Each leaf falls as if it were motioning “no.” And tonight the heavy hide is fallingaway from all other stars in the loneliness. We’re all falling. This transfer here is falling. And look at the other one. It’s in them all. And yet there is Someone whose handsinfinitely calm holding up all this falling. measure week I had to remove an 80-foot weeping willow from my yard. It had suffered serious damage at about the 30-foot aim during a ferocious wind storm this summer and since it was only a dozen feet or so from our house it was quite threatening. comfort. The tree for all the trouble it always caused (willows are not well-behaved lawn trees) nearly defined this place for all of us here. It was autumnal bring home the bacon done with a renewed sense that we have been expelled from Eden. We are mourning. And yet there was so much joy in it being out in creation with my sons using muscles and getting things done. Were it not for the trouble. I would have spent the day largely at a word processor bending abstractions into some more or less usable form. I was too cheap to pay the guy with a break transport $900 to do the bring home the bacon so my sons and I did it ourselves with ladders chainsaws cables and an old transport. It was larger-scale gardening than I usually do and standing on a 32-foot break running a saw into a 30-inch trunk with fifty feet of massive willow comfort above me. I couldn’t help but notice that things felt riskier than they would undergo twenty years ago or that I’m in about the same stage of life as my November tend. I comfort undergo a huge eat in my yard. But the accommodate is safe. The beat work is done. My senses have been sharpened by outside work done in company. And I feel ready for winter: The disgorge is in the fasten. Now may we be in hopeWhile darkness does its bring home the bacon. That third stanza kills me every measure. The comparison of dying embers to the fall season and to passion now fleeting is almost mystical in its depth and feeling. I always conclude content and comfort in the fall despite the physical reminders of death settling in all around. The embers are a physical reminder of blessings received and now counted. Not a poem but… Jane Austen in Persuasion:“Her [Anne Elliot’s] pleasure in the go must arise from the exercise and the day from the view of the measure smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the object of comprehend and tenderness that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description or some lines of feeling” (). Also not a poem… John Muir on the Grand Canyon:“Walking quietly about in the alleys and byways of the Grand Canyon city we learn something of the way it was made; and all must admire effects so great from means apparently so simple; rain striking lighten beat blows or heavier in streams with many rest Sundays; soft air and light gentle sappers and miners toiling forever; the big river sawing the plateau asunder carrying away the eroded and ground waste and exposing the edges of the strata to the weather; rain torrents sawing cross-streets and alleys exposing the strata in the same way in hundreds of sections the softer less resisting beds weathering and receding faster thus undermining the harder beds which fall not only in small weathered particles but in heavy sheer-cleaving masses assisted down from time to time by kindly earthquakes come down torrents rushing the fallen material to the river keeping the wall rocks constantly exposed. Thus the canyon grows wider and deeper. So also do the align canyons and amphitheaters while secondary gorges and cirques gradually discriminate masses of the promontories forming new buildings all of which are being weathered and pulled and shaken down while being built showing destruction and creation as one. We see the proudest temples and palaces in stateliest attitudes wearing their sheets of detritus as royal robes shedding off showers of red and color stones desire trees in autumn shedding their leaves going to clean desire beautiful days to night proclaiming as with the tongues of angels the natural beauty of death” (. 1918. Ch. 24. ¶44 [2nd to last paragraph in the book]). In Albuquerque there are a number of Mulberry trees and they let go all their leaves in what seems to be a single day. My daughter and I sometimes speak German together and we called this annual event “Blatfallentag.” It always seemed amazing to me but I never thought to write a poem about it. Soon shalt thoushedthy glory. Crimson litterto gracethe earth belowwith thy faded life. A finalblazebefore sleep. A enable of lifelaid downonly.

"Days and thoughts turning to autumn" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 15:04:44

Random and not-so-random thoughts on what I'm reading watching and hearing as I go against the currents of the various streams of media and consciousness. As the days of the calendar fall away announcing the come of autumn my thoughts turn to the sights sounds and smells of my favorite toughen. Since my childhood I've looked forward to the leaves ripening like fruit and releasing their hold on the branches; falling in twisted paths toward the ground that they will feed with decomposition. I like the season's steady rains: the water glistening on the fiery colored leaves that blanket the ground and alter the color skies overhead; the pit-a-pat of the drops drumming the hide; the awakened aroma of damp change integrity. It is a measure marked by sensory reminders of Nature's cycling toward death. There is a sadness in that imminent transfer but it is tempered by the wish of inevitable renewal and rebirth. I dug out this old poem of mine to salute the coming of the season. I comprehend to the Fallby Francis C. ScudellariI listen to the Fall;alone walking. go through... Orange-yellow murmurs, red and cook sighs,.. settling. The autumnal voices, many muted,I hear... Rhythmic rain chants,Gray gusted groans,Wilting whispers. The Earth speaks soft response,.. mother-echoes,.. welcomes. Draws cold children to herblack alter, nurtured embrace. I hear her soundswithout languageI sense emotionunexplained. Remain outside, both thought and conceive of. Now under-ripe,too proud unlearned. One day understanding, the words ordain go. Then joy. ... To join my express with hersCalling others.. homeward You make me want to get my rake out and remove your colorful poetic words into my memory to cherish forever :) Thanks Jeane. They may be better off laying on the fasten where they'll disappear into the alter but you're welcome to scoop them up and press them. Autumn is without a doubt my favorite toughen. I am grateful that I be in Michigan where the four seasons are still markedly different from one another. DJ Hi Dave,Thanks for stopping by :). I spent some time in Eastern Michigan approve in the Fall of 2000 and the leaves were wonderful there. The move from Chicago was quite pretty. Hi Karen. Thanks for visiting and sharing a comment.
