"What A Bulletin Board Is Good For" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-16 05:36:36

About three weeks ago. I was in a homeschooling slump. Its not that I was tired of homeschooling or that the kids were complaining of boredom. Perhaps it was the onset of fall. Maybe it was the Hungarian video I saw for teaching children math (don't ask). Maybe it was that simply couldn't fit one more piece of artwork onto our fridge. Whatever the case. I decided that I needed a bulletin board. A big bulletin board like schools have where the teachers decorate it and display the children's work. With themes that work around the calendar and fun little doo-dads. I hadn't bought a thing all year for school that was "fun" so I thought "Why not?". I know that Tom Builder when he saw the box it was in was thinking. "WHY??". But you know what? This bulletin board has been terrific. It has added a bit of interaction this month that has been lacking. For the last two weeks we've been adding leaves to the board (parents and children) with each leaf describing something we are thankful for. It has been a neat process to see what everyone finds themselves thankful for that day. Everything from "Food" to "The Troops" to "Modern Medicine" to "Schoole" (love the irony on the last one). This board is gigantic which makes for a gargantuan box. What do kids love to play with? Boxes. And so during our Thanksgiving Break the children have used the box to sleep under as a tent. Because that is simply the natural order of children and boxes. I was just thinking a bulletin board would be fun. I like to bring the things that were good memories of my public school days into my homeschool.. mostly lunch and recess but a bulletin board is a good one too. We use school desks just for the fun of it and I have a teacher's desk. I even have a hall pass but it is just a conversation piece:0)Hilda Rebecca Great work! Whenever God sees it fit to finally sell our house our new one is destined for a bulletin board wall. Yes it certainly gets one in an interactive and festive school mode. I don't have any great teacher stores near me but I always watch Oriental Trading Co online for nifty school decor themes and crafty ideas. Love it! Hopefully we can establish ourselves soon and let our own little home school environment blossom:) Our family would like to extend a giant thank you to everyone who has cheered us on over the last nine months and who in good sport participated in our "Name Hope" poll. We are thrilled to be able to finally share our newest blessing in full color. We are a Christian family that follows Charlotte Mason's philosophy of education and character formation. Our family blog documents the Ambleside Online curriculum of living books and nature study with our added Montessori flair.(This tag includes all homeschooling related posts.)Curriculum & Approach>> >> >> >> >> Concentrated Studies>> : . >> . >> History. Literature. >> . Organization & Preparation>> . >> . >> Please Note: The is currently being merged into this blog. Posts from years back will be added as time permits. One God. One Lord. One Family. Eleven amazing years of marriage to one very talented and entrepreneur savvy Tom Builder. 3 homeschooled merry crumb crunchers and number four in the pressure cooker one windfall business and another still waiting for the wind to fill its sails and now. 12 acres of horse farm heaven waiting for our family to fix up move in and call home. Welcome to the wildly blessed world of The Knucker Hatches. Where two middle aged candles are always burning at both ends and the projects never get finished.. but everybody is thankful to be home.

"Bulletin Board ...done!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:00:09

Just a few pictures of the completed bulletin board. First the big picture. Here's one of just my artwork. I thought teacher lounge.. lounge fireplace get it??I snapped this one in my room before going to the school. More change state ups... I originally bought these light strings for my ornaments. This wreath took me to put together using one of Martha Stewart new Christmas punches and a glue pen. In case you don't already know you can use Michaels' coupons on all Martha supplies now. I definitely did. The base for the wreath was made by cutting a circle frame (with the Coluzzle) from one pelt of green paper. I think this wreath is around 4 inches.. maybe? I punched another full 12 x 12 sheet of same paper. I also used a few punches of a slightly transport green hoping to act some variations. The red poinsettia is a glittery choose that I cut apart and and hot glued to the wreath. The center ornaments are Jolees from a Christmas sheet of presents or packages.. I ended up replacing the center with a Mary Engelbreit 3D sticker with an elf and the words Christmas Joy. This second board only got coordinating computer generated signs. On a personal note. I can't believe I ran out of laundry soap. I process everyday! Anyway. I went to Walmart after putting this up at school so I need to go and impel in a load. I've got a lot of cleaning and cooking to do before Thanksgiving. It's overwhelming actually. But. I'm excited about the holiday. I'm happy that my girls are coming home. Tomorrow I go to choose up the freshman and the older one comes home on Tuesday. Yippee!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ETA: In my I've been working on some Christmas images. Hopefully I'll be able to turn them into cards before long. I've decided to get together 200 posts and 2 years of blogging on Tuesday morning. Come back if you can for the celebration! I might even finish up one of my fall cards by then... I couldn't get any further behind.. lol. Jacki ~ This is too cute. What a Christmasy person you must be. Thanks for sharing... I am talking about the fireplace.. in case you thought I was talking about the bulletin board.. lol Fantastic you put a lot of work and detail into your Christmas scene on the board lovely. How great to have your girls home for Thanksgiving. That wreath is amazing. I don't have the patience to do something like that. Thanks for sharing. Hi. Nice to meet you! I loved reading your blog and seeing your talent in challenge! Deb That bulletin board looks soooo much better.

of AWelkin in a couple of her excellent suits. We also learned that velour makes an excellent burr magnet so don’t go tramping through wood areas wearing a velour cape (especially don’t go off dawdle in such a thing). Sunday. Ariensa & I just enjoyed a lazy day. Mostly we just hung around the accommodate and did a whole lot of nothing. Though we did go to the grocery store for some reconnaissance on the tea party she’s planning for October. Oddly enough when we got to the store. I noticed a flyer on the community bulletin board inviting people to the world’s biggest tea party. *shrugh* Odd timing that. Oh and the reason this affix is called what it is has to do with a startling experience I had Sunday morning. After I took my consume and was going through my morning toiletries. I caught sight of something moving by the bathroom window. I turned to look over and realized we had a wasp crawling around on the inside of the window. *shudder* I quickly finished up and got out of there. Ariesna dug up the bug spray and then we took compassionate of the little invader. Nobody got stung or anything really unpleasant desire that. It’s just if there’s a specific time you don’t want to see a wasp; it’s when you’re standing around nekked. *smile* Some were digital some were 35mm. When all the film has been developed we’ll select some of them to send off to the magazine who requested the photos. Once I have clearance from the AWelkin & the magazine populate. I’ll affix some of them to.  Though we also undergo a bring together more shoots to do so don’t evaluate to see those photos any measure soon. Tags: .
