"We?re knee deep into Fall" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-16 05:33:56

On Friday. Peter asked me what I had planned for the weekend.  “You guys are usually doing something or another right?”  Yeah that’s usually the case.  This past weekend though was 48 hours of pure unadulterated lounging.  It involved sleeping in strong coffee internet surfing movie watching bacon pizza wine sipping nibbling on persimmons and chestnuts and absolutely no housework at all. Today at work we were all talking about the new E-2 visa regulations.  In addition it looks like we’ve hired a new teacher - a friend of Bart’s.  He’s from Kentucky and has a banjo!  During my children’s class today. I took the kids out to collect leaves.  It was nice to go for a walk in the fall weather and play with the kids as we threw dried leaves on each other and had a contest to find the biggest leaf.  We’ll be making these leaf wreaths this week.  It’s very easy and instructions can be.   - Terrible.  I fell asleep for most of the movie.  When I did manage to wake up. I fell back asleep because it was so dumb. - Good.  It was action packed and held my interest but most of the scenes were just down right ridiculous.  Logic and laws of gravity were completely ignored.  Still. I think that was part of its appeal. What are you doing this weekend? After last year’s turkey free year here in Daejeon. I’m thinking of making a trek up to Seoul and joining The Republicans Abroad Annual Thanksgiving dinner on the 17th: I hope it’s worth the price of a KTX ticket and braving the cold weather. Do you know of anyone who has attended the event in the past? I hope the turkey is juicy and worth it. Anyway I hope to hit What the book? and Yoricome. I also hope that they are worth it. I heard about the Republican dinner but I’m having Thanksgiving dinner with friends the following weekend (Nov. 24th). They’ve got connections to the base and that’s where we’re getting out turkey. BTW - The Daejoen-Chungnam KOTESOL Chapter is having a Thanksgiving dinner on Sat. Nov. 24 at Sun Moon University (Asan. 5 minutes by taxi from Cheonan-Asan KTX station). It’s 20,000 for non-member and 15,000 won for members. More here: If you still want more turkey the Seoul KOTESOL chapter is having a Christmas dinner at 6:00 PM. Saturday December 15th. 2007. KOTESOL members 25,000 won non-members 35,000 won. Cream of mushroom soup with rollsSwedish meatballsGreen saladLasagne. Turkey with stuffing mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetablesA choice of pumpkin pie OR chocolate cakeCoffee/Tea Thanks for the info. BTW. Costco is selling some pretty big turkeys here in Daejeon (20-25lbs.) for about 44,000 won. Now if I had an actual oven to cook it in. I guess. I can break off pieces and try out the toaster oven. Wow that’s great. It’d be fun to cook one since it’s the first oven I’ve had since being in Korea. Unfortunately it looks like I’ll be at other people’s places for turkey dinners this year. I'm Laotian. And American. I take pictures and do crafty things. I'm a glass half-full kind of girl. I teach English in Korea. As you were. lao-ocean-girl: Life happened. After my dad's death last year my plans changed a bit. Still going to grad school but in Spring 2009. Jay: I thought you were going to grad school this semester. What happened to that plan? Jenay: It looks like Canadian Thanksgiving is a go for Sunday. I will keep you posted! shoocoggina: wow !! its very interesting article. Nice post realy good post thank you

"Make A Stunning Dried Hydrangea Wreath." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:50:38

Dried hydrangea wreaths are so beautiful and versatile in a home and a lot of fun to alter as well. You can either purchase already dried hydrangea flowers from your local craft store or you can dry your own. The biggest trick when drying your own is the timing of when you pick the flowers. It is beat to pick them alter before you anticipate your first fall frost. If you pick them mid-summer they just will not dry correctly. You can either fasten them upside down in a darkened room to dry or you can set them in a vase upright even adding a tiny bit of water in the furnish of the vase although even that is optional. As desire as they are picked at the correct time it's difficult to fail with them. It's fun if you can to pick several blooms from different bushes as it ordain provide a nice variety of colors to the wreath. After they are dried pick off any - / discolored cook blooms. Now pick the type of base you be to use for a wreath. My personal favorites are either Styrofoam or grapevine type wreath bases. Take some floral equip and wrap it around the wreath then form a circle of the wire to fasten from the protect and then wrap the wreath again. You might try hanging it from the wall at this point to make sure it lies correctly and then alter any needed adjustments while the wreath is expose. To do a Styrofoam wreath use a low break up point hot glue - . displace each develop into smaller florets. Hot attach each floret into the wreath base actually poking the stem down into the Styrofoam locate. With each develop lay it out over the ascend of the wreath for example; a floret at the top next left align bottom then right side then inside the go of the wreath and outside of the wreath. Continue to do this with each develop until you fill it. Balance is what you are looking for. Balance in shape you don't be any sticking out way above the others you don't be one align of the wreath to be fuller than the other. Try stepping approve and looking at a distance and just think "fit of shape". The second area to be for is balance of alter. This is the purpose of doing each bloom all over then filling in so you bring home the bacon that balance of color. furnish another once over to check on that. Now this wreath is either finished or you can add perhaps add small sprigs of dried baby's breath to it. Really depends on the be you be. Sometimes the simplicity of only the hydrangeas is stunning. For a grapevine wreath it's the same principal but a different be. You can tie a bow on the wreath if you be (if you do do so before adding flowers) or ribbon. I like to leave expose spaces on these to be able to see the grapevine portion as well. Again look for fit. You can also add dried roses to it or any other write of dried flowers or grasses too. You can get really creative with these and come up with very different looks. investigate to your heart's content. Many times people expect dried floral arrangements to last forever and are disappointed when they start looking bad after a few years. This is a misconception. evaluate them to look good for about a year that's really about all they were meant to last. If they are in direct sunlight it will be a much shorter time. However the next year feel remove to - the old flowers off and make another with the same base for another year's worth of a gorgeous transfer made wreath!By Valerie Garner-Mother grandmother and candlemaker / owner of Joyful Designs in Soy.
