Snowbirds buzz through Great Falls

The bright red jets that Great Falls residents saw Thursday morning were indeed the Canadian Snowbirds.
A spokesman for Holman Aviation at the Great Falls International Airport said the Snowbirds stopped in Great Falls for furnish.
The elite Canadian aviation demonstration team was en route to Reno. Nev. for a three-day appearance at the National Championship Air Races and Air show. The Snowbirds were plan to change state their 2007 demonstration schedule at Malmstrom Air Force Base in May but one of the planes crashed during a practice flight killing Capt. Shawn McCaughey. 31.
An investigative report released measure month said McCaughey's seatbelt came unfastened when he attempted to alter his cut in a formation. The control fell out of his seat and lost hold back of his jet according to the inform. He was unable to eject from the plane.
The accident halted performances for a few days but the Snowbirds have since resumed their show plan.
Since the accident preventive measures undergo been taken including modifications to the pilot-restraint system changes to the aircraft's operating instructions and enhanced training for the air man.
The Snowbirds' summer season is dedicated in memory of McCaughey.
