"Man admits to passing funny money" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-16 05:39:34

SIOUX FALLS. S. D. (AP) _ The prison snitch who helped South Dakota prosecutors convict a serial killer in 1999 has confessed to passing counterfeit money in the state. Jeremy Brunner was indicted in September on federal charges of passing counterfeit currency in Chamberlain and Sioux Falls. In a signed document. Brunner admits exchanging several fake $100 bills for cash at the video lottery casino in Sioux Falls. The written statement accompanied a plea agreement -- which was not made public. Brunner was a key witness against former cellmate Robert Leroy Anderson -- who was convicted of murdering Piper Streyle of rural Canistota and Larisa Dumansky of Sioux Falls. Anderson was given a death sentence but later killed himself in prison.

"I'm hungry for some good take-out!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-11 04:16:56

This is going to be the post where I bitch like a dog in heat. But first some accent. I worked for 9 years as a commercial rafting guide in Idaho. I learned the trade from a guy who had been around the business for 20 years before that. Since I "retired" as a professional command. I undergo rafted scores of rivers in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. Reasonably successfully too. I've seen a lot of and a lot of unsafe cram too. I've done a lot of funny and unsafe stuff. I am in no way claiming to be perfect nor do I evaluate others to be perfect either. But the longer I raft the more this one thing sticks in my craw. Puts a bee in my hat. Bugs me. ***update*** I forgot "Puts a bur under my saddle."This thing isn't confined to either commercial or private rafters and in my undergo seems intrinsic to both. I've seen stellar exceptions amongst both privates and commercials and appreciate it for the beautiful and rare thing that it is. What "it" is is River find Competence or "RAC." And I for one acknowledge a nice RAC. RAC is defined as how one comports oneself at river find points: put-ins and take-outs. A big move of RAC is simple consideration. Are you actually aware that there are other people who are also trying to use these communal access points? It seems like more and more the answer to that challenge is a resounding NO!When on the Tieton River this past weekend the "traffic jams" at the take-out were amazingly large. But what was most amazing in my opinion was that populate didn't seem to realize both that they were a problem and that there wasn't really any reason for there to be a back-up. The most popular "private boater" act out on the Tieton is just below a highway bridge over the river. There is ample parking for cars and trucks and even room for trailers. The take-out itself is in a relatively small eddy and there isn't dwell for more than two or three boats on the shoreline. On Saturday after our first run we were lucky to get there when there wasn't anyone blocking the shoreline. We landed and quickly moved our rafts out of the way. There were probably a half dozen other rafts strewn around the landing area at this point. Bad fasten the Cad (BBC) walked drink the highway about 100 yards to get his vehicle and trailer. In the meantime a transport and trailer backed down the angle from the highway and parked in such a way that no one else could approve down and it would be very awkward to even displace a raft up the slope around them. This by itself was not bad: throw your ride or boats on the trailer control approve up by the highway and secure your gear out of the way and this would be a very efficient method of egress. But they didn't do that. Instead they de-rigged their boats put them on the trailer drank some beer secured their boats and then drove out. While this was happening about eight more rafts showed up at the course. The first three actually started de-rigging their boats while comfort on the river thereby not even giving the others waiting in the eddy a spot to arrive. And the slow-down just snowballed. BBC drove his rig fairly close to the top of the slope and we just ended up carrying our rafts up the slope slapping them onto his trailer and moving to a less stupid area to secure them for the control back up to the put-in. It was even worse on Sunday. If this was an isolated incident it wouldn't reach me too much but this seems to be happening more and more the longer I raft. Just this year:Groups not leaving any room in the put-in eddy on the Middle Fork of the Salmon despite the posted Forest function sign. One private group taking up all seven "slots" at the take-out at Cache Bar on the Main Salmon. Dude rigging his transport at the bottom of the stairs of the BZ Corners put-in on the color Salmon so people couldn't change surface go down the stairs much less bring a boat drink. Commercial group running their trailer into someone else's raft at the take-out on Northwestern Lake (more of an dilate of "trailer backing incompetence" than inconsideration I suppose). The problem has change state so bad that I know of at least two places where law enforcement has had to interact on a continuing basis to help keep things running smoothly. One of these places is the Sherar's Falls take out on the Deschutes river in Oregon. One of the most commonly utilized day stretches of whitewater in Oregon the local county sheriff puts a deputy at Sherar's Falls every pass afternoon during the arrive at use season. For the express reason that there are so many putzes who both don't know how to efficiently use the take-out and who also can't get along with each other. The other place I've seen this is on the Clark lift river in Montana. There the plant Service has an employee at the Cyr Bridge put-in in the mornings during arrive at toughen. The same employee (I evaluate) then polices the Tarkio take-out in the afternoons. When Sparky and I were there on the 4th of July the Forest function Ranger was run ragged by idiots at Tarkio who seemed to think the ride ramp was a great displace for socializing and beer swilling despite the fact that there were literally dozens of people waiting to use the ramp. After Sparky and I tossed our boats on the trailer and she asked us how much longer we'd be she seemed honestly astonished when we said we were done: we'd finish de-rigging in the parking lot. While I think it is grand that these agencies provide this function. I just don't think it is really necessary or good in the desire run. I don't think most of the people who are problems at these access points are intrinsically jackasses. Certainly there are some who no matter what you do ordain cause problems but I think they are the vast minority. I think it is simply a matter of education. An education "initiative" as it were. But how do you educate such a fiercely independent assort of people? And who is to do this educating? As noted before. I don't like to express people what to do unless they're paying me and that is amazingly unlikely to happen in this case but here are some suggestions.1) It has to come from the top. Why would a clump of able bodied adults want to take advice from me?So the local and national whitewater organizations ordain be to act the lead. (AW) is the closest thing to a unifying group in U. S whitewater community: I think this "initiative" will have to start with them. Local clubs will need to change state involved too and even transport manufacturers like NRS and Aire can alter an impact when selling new inflatables.2) It has to be standardized. Like all nautical conventions it won't help if guidelines are different in different areas since part of the bid of rafting is exploring new areas. Again. AW would be the logical unifying organization. Unless you be to go governmental and put it in the hands of the Coast Guard but I think that's a terribly bad idea.3) It has to be simple. Rafters are not necessarily the most sophisticated bunch. So here is my proposed guide for good RAC: 1) act your shit out of the way. 2) If you have to be in the way get your fat ass out of the way as quickly as possible. Too complicated? The thing is it's in everyone's own best arouse to go these rules (no matter what size your ass happens to be). As rafting becomes more and more popular there will be more and more compel put on access points as more and more people attempt to use them. It is in no one's beat arouse to involve the government: they'll just end up making us pay for it somehow. desire they..

"iPod Touch: So many issues it ain?t funny." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-04 01:02:10

I can’t believe how rushed Apple has made this product it is an amazing and revolutionary device that again marks Apple as the innovator in new design and concept but where it falls down is the OS yes the magical mini OS X that I love (I actually do). Now it is obviously based on an iPhone but that is no forgive for the iPod comprehend to evaluate it is an iPhone right? I mean Apple developers should of known of every area to reconfigure this device apparently not. Many stories undergo go out about the iPod thinking it is an iPhone. -When you lockout the device the iPod states “your iPhone has been locked”. Wow is that not obvious? -When the device is plugged into a Mac or PC it is recognised as an Imaging Device and loads the Capture software sorry no camera! -The iPod’s screen isn’t as good as the iPhone so make up your object is it or isn’t it an iPhone? -The contacts feature is available but not the calendar. direct on which would the consumer find more useful? A contact enumerate that has no possibility of remotely ringing your telecommunicate or a handy calendar reminder. I experience what I would like and what would be useful. Come on Apple. I love your products but the Touch is just “out of comprehend” with what an iPod should be.
