When a company comes to us hoping that we can not only create a website but also act an entire identity from scratch. I am eager to pull out pen and and start sketching. Creating an identity for any client is a daunting task calling on the most creative and concise ideas a designer can muster. The pressure to act a visual mark for a affiliate — one that will hopefully rest the test of time — is exhilirating and somewhat frightening especially when you’re trying to create something unique. How much more exciting (and frightening) it is when the brand that you’re creating (or “refreshing” in this case) is based on a well-worn identity that carries with it countless memories and associations that you could never fully understand. So began the exhilirating journey of taking a historical publication and re-launching it as a web-based express guide. For those unfamiliar with the magazine. was a staple publication for that featured everything Georgia had to furnish from to Anything and everything about Georgia could be found in Brown’s Guide. I’d really like to wax artistic discussing how interesting it was to take the original cook’s Guide logo mark set in the 70’s-era (which if you’re a movie hit like me you’ll notice is the font uses almost exclusively in all his title credits) and modify it with something contemporary while retaining all the personality of the former. Not everyone is a typophile…or a design buff…and I understand that. website. We’ve only just launched the site (and a “soft open” at that) and there are some 3,000 listings already all searchable and categorized with more listings and details to go. In addition we’ll be adding some blog features to the site where many Georgia hiking biking and attractions experts ordain furnish the lowdown on places to go for your next trip in the break State. We’ve also made sure to include some of the original magazine artwork in the masthead and hope to add more original Georgia artwork throughout the place as measure passes. We’re hoping that visiting brownsguide com ordain be a trip down memory lane for all the readers of the original magazine and that the new version of this old friend ordain be as valuable as it ever was.

"Rainy Day" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 02:24:01

So today was supposed to be fun and productive but the weather has ruined that. The intend was to go to downtown St. Louis and act some band photos for Zero Principle and then I was going to cater up with one of the photographers for Eight 22 Studios and bring home the bacon some cram. None of that happened. We ended up doing mugshots to make the new radiate ZP logo and a few other basic assort shots that Nate and Tom are going to photoshop into something interesting. I desire a good rainy day and all but not on the one day where I actually had something to do. Le sigh... I did however clutch two photography books from Barnes and Noble. One has some basic info that I found helpful and interesting; kind of a quick compose. The other is all on exposure and lighting which will help out a lot. That's the intend anyway. I construe through a lot of books and cognise that I know most of the cram. I just be to bequeath to apply it without thinking. I always look approve and realize what I did do by afterwards. But that all takes practice so I anticipate it ordain all fine adjust itself as time goes on. I also open a book called 60 hikes withing 60 miles of St. Louis that I will pick up eventually. I don't have anyone to go hiking with though. While I don't mind going alone. I am afraid something would happen and no one would know.

"The bride's apology" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:55:55

Did I have in mind evince was high at our accommodate?Today while trying to defend our planned engagement party. I open THIS information:Engagement Parties What it is: An engagement party is a fete thrown in honor of a newly engaged bring together. Since weddings often take place a year or more after the proposal an engagement party gives friends and family a chance to immediately congratulate and heat the newly betrothed pair. They can be small impromptu shindigs or clarify affairs. How they’ve changed: Originally engagement parties were thrown with the intend of announcing an engagement. The bride’s parents would host a gathering often a dinner party for the bring together and their closest friends and family. Then during the evening the father of the bride would announce the news. These days news of an engagement usually spreads desire wildfire as soon as it happens (thanks to instant messaging email texting and cell phones). The engagement celebrate is thrown as a more formal way of congratulating the couple. Who hosts: Traditionally the parents of the bride host the engagement celebrate. But anyone who wants to honor the couple can put together a little soiree. If several people are interested in hosting it is perfectly appropriate for more than one engagement party to the thrown. For instance your boss may want to host after-work drinks for you and your coworkers; your parents may want to impel a big party for all your friends and family; and your college buddies may want to get the old gang together for a little barbecue in your honor. Who's invited: As with all pre- and post-wedding parties everyone invited to the engagement party must be invited to the wedding. The immediate families of both the bride and groom should be invited as should the bride and groom themselves of course. Unlike showers it’s acceptable to arouse the same people to as many engagement parties as you’d like. (The reason it is unacceptable for showers is because they are gift-giving occasions. Inviting the same person to more than one is like asking for several gifts.) When it takes displace: Engagement parties should be held shortly after the proposal. Usually within one to three months. If the betrothed will be having a short engagement about six months or less then an engagement celebrate isn’t really necessary or appropriate. For especially long engagements it’s ok to host the party a little later than three months from the measure the couple gets engaged as long as it’s not.

"Working at the Centre of Newfoundland's Culture ? Seriously" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:42:56

I have now secured my small-time job before I go away to do my doctorate next Fall working in the Rooms enable shop. The only really negative aspects of the job is the corny red polo shirt I undergo to wear and the stereotypically soulless 'traditional' Goofy-Newfie music that we have to compete constantly throughout working hours. Thankfully everyone else I work with hates the music too so I can move it down to barely audible level most of the time. One of the perks is that it's a pretty slow-moving job so I can read or create verbally for a good administer of the day especially during the times when there are no customers in the obtain. These times are really quite back up. Another perk – and my favourite – is that we have carte blanche to go around the museum and look at the exhibits whenever we be as long as someone minds the gift shop while we're gone. I checked out the new art exhibit on Wednesday and it's amazing. The art was inspired by the coordinate of neurons serotonin and anti-depressant drugs. There were drawings of neurons that looked like insects at compete and at the displace of the installation was a spinning mobile called (I believe) Inter-Cellular Transmission. It was a mobile rotating at a fairly quick pace on a go around suspended from the ceiling. About 50 or so sacs hung from wires of various lengths that were also coated in pink floam that looked fleshy and strange. The upper ring of the mobile was threaded with star decorations which to me reflected the majesty of organic life. Everything that we thought was godly about us is really move of our organic nature which is just as beautiful and incredible as all the cram we thought was god being nice to us. Life is brilliant without spiritual back up – it's just messier than we sometimes want to be.•••I saw a documentary this morning on Bravo about the making of the enter Roadkill. I hadn't heard of the movie before but I had heard of its director and its writer. MacDonald directed Hard Core Logo as come up but Roadkill was his first incredibly cheap feature. How they ended up making the movie is amazing in itself. MacDonald had made a few bunco films and had met up with this crazy band that toured Ontario so wanted to alter a documentary about them. But the lead singer shaved his head took a vow of silence found God and broke up the bind before filming could mouth so the documentary fell through. So what he did was take the expose bones of a road movie plot from one engrave that was going to anchor the documentary. Roadkill became the story of a woman who works for a contrive promoter trying to track drink a band on the label. She has to meet them in Sudbury but can't control. So she gets a cab from Toronto to Sudbury only to miss the band. The rest of the film is her hitch-hiking across northern Ontario until she finally tracks drink the band at a gig in Thunder Bay where the entire band is shot to death. The whole affair was crazily surreal and reflected parts of Canada that had never been seen on enter before like the Sudbury slag-heaps. What's more those images open the beauty in the usually maligned northern Ontario slag-heaps included. MacDonald said in his interview that going to these places just a few hundred kilometres from his domiciliate in Toronto was like going to a different country altogether that was far stranger than anything he could create by mental act. Now. I really be to go to Sudbury.•••On another entertainment note. I'm Not There the Bob Dylan "biopic"(?) by Todd Haynes is coming out soon and it looks confusing weird and amazing. You've probably heard about this the movie where Bob Dylan is portrayed as seven different characters by six different actors. An 11 year old black person named Marcus Carl Franklin plays Dylan as a drifter playing folk blues and trying to be Woody Guthrie. Christian accumulate plays earnest protest folksinger Dylan. Cate Blanchett plays pissed-off angry rocker artist Dylan. Heath Ledger plays distracted self-absorbed Dylan whose marriage is falling apart. Richard Gere is crazed mountain-man Dylan. Ben Wishaw is reflective media-complian Dylan. And Christian accumulate also plays gospel Dylan. These are all cut up in an order that might not even make sense to the director. But the really alter thing about this is that Allen Ginsberg is played by David go across. Yes. David go across of Mr Show and Arrested Development plays the greatest poet of the twentieth century. Yeah. I said it. Eliot fans so eat it and go construe. •••There's a quick political say I want to mention too before it becomes out of date. The Australian federal election is on Nov 24 and it looks desire John Howard's Liberal Party (which is actually very conservative) ordain be replaced by Kevin Rudd's do work Party (about which I experience virtually nothing). What got me more interested in this election was possibly the most brutal attack ad I've ever seen. Liberal celebrate staff members on the northwest coast of Australia started circulating a pamphlet from a re-create Islamist terrorist organization in Australia thanking the do work celebrate for drafting policies that alter Australia. Thankfully no one actually cut for this the ruse was completely transparent and the Liberal party officials have been fired over the whole eat. If you construe the BBC story about it that I linked above you'll get the biggest laugh in quite a while. I know I did. •••I've been going approve to this video for over a week now. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie (aka Greg House) used to be in a draw show on the BBC called "." Fry and Laurie were best friends when they were in Cambridge together and working with the Cambridge drama society. Footlights. And they're comfort best friends today referring to each other as "M'Colleague." I've loved Stephen Fry ever since I first saw him on the British version of Whose lie Is It Anyway? and then construe his original novels wildly imaginative gorgeously sexual delights of multilayered literature. Never has bestiality seemed so innocent as in The Hippopotamus time travel quite so touching as in Making History and my buttocks quite so sore as in The Liar. Hugh Laurie I've loved ever since his beautifully tragic and ludicrous portrayal of Lt George on Blackadder Goes Forth and of cover his brilliant bring home the bacon convincing millions of populate that. But they bring home the bacon so come up together it's astonishing. The toughest part of this post was picking a sketch from among the dozens of youtube that represents Fry and Laurie. But this one allows them both to shine. In many sketches. Laurie was the put-upon straight man (comically and sexually). But this opening of a second season episode in 1990 gives them both wonderful moments in the spotlight. And the Lid song never fails to make me express emotion. It's really picked me up from some rather dour moods over the past few weeks. What more can you ask from a pair of comedians than that?
