"Missoula, Montana, USA!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 02:43:04

First things first some music for you people given to me by my new friend Paula who kinda showed Moses and I the Missoula L Hiking dawdle. After talking about the communicate Paula insisted I furnish this song a listen.. it's very appropriate in relation to my jaunt. The song is Society from the Into the Wild Film Soundtrack. Music by Eddie Vedder.. arouse I like it!So crossed the US/Canada adjoin safe n sound. They took an eagle feather from me which was given to me by a guy at the Sun move this past August. Eagles are an endangered species and unless your Native American it is illegal to carry them across international borders. I knew this but when I asked Grandma Rosie about it. she told me to take it since it was a gift for me and eagles don't understand human-made borders anyway. So this is what I told them but at the same time I understand the need to curb international eagle hunting for shady change. Anyways it's only one shoot conjoin and it happens sometimes that a sacred natural laws doesn't always work in unison with those created by us humans. But it's not about creating negatives so I put drink some tobacco as instructed by Rosie so no injure comes to those who know not what they do.___Coming across the US border the first thing that strikes me aside from the anxiety of being in a different country is how similar we are. desire the eagle. I don't feel I've really crossed any adjoin at all. Whether this speaks to the land or whether this speaks to the success of the capitalist monocultural machine. I'm not quite sure.. but aside from some different signs a different sign and the fact that I undergo no idea how far I've gone how abstain I'm going or how much diesel I'm getting at the pumps it's pretty much uniform with where I've come from. Pushed on by anxiety and a need to get as far away from customs as I can in case they have delayed notions of searching the be of my van. I put some serious miles on Veronica. She carries Moses and I down through the sunset in Browning and into the cold of the mountains. We sleep that first night in the frigid cold of East Glacier where we find a nice girl Molly at a command store and a friendly fellow named Joe with amazing fries next door. After some chit chat and no real leads we head to bed me deep in my sleeping bag. Moses at my feet not a care in the world the husky in him happy as a lark. Then we're off and running. drink to Missoula where we've been ever since. It's cold here and from what people tell me it'll be cold for a long way south too. So I'm thinking I might as well get used to it and adapt. I change state up in the mornings reaching out of my sleeping bag to run a finger across the window.. ooooohhhh brrrrr as the frost slip until my nails. Sometimes we're lucky and Veronica starts after a few unconvincing overturns then it's back in the bag until the air warms inside. Other times we're not so lucky and I have to get dressed shaking and shivering and head outside onto the roof go away the generator plug in the block heater close in the battery charger and then go walk the dog in circles trying to be warm until she's ready. It's a prepare life but beautiful in its challenges and in it's ability to make you acknowledge modern comforts. And if I'm alter in this idea that our world is headed towards a serious shift then there's one thing we better all get used to being a little colder and less comfortable than we currently are. It may be cold here in Missoula but the people are warm. I like this place already. Aside from walks up to the L with Paula. I was also invited to US Thanksgiving Dinner with two other new friends Dan and Kit. Moses leads me to these people when we're out walking and in that comprehend he's my guide dog. In speaking with Dan about my work he made one comment that left a deep attach on me. He said. "Well you undergo to think about it we know we're in affect and even we are having an awfully hard time not being complicit. And I think we're the minority most other people aren't all that concerned they're only worried with making the next dollar and buying more toys." I think Dan's right and I evaluate desire him we should act it all smiling no inform in letting it baffle your life you can comfort make changes but worry ordain and gloom gets us nowhere. And desire he also said quoting his mother. "It's always been bad it was bad in the 30's it was bad in the 60's it's always 'bad' but we find a way to rile through!"Me I'm not so sure we'll sight our way through this time but it's ok as there's always an upside to every drink peace,dPictures1. "Days 5-8: Northern Oregon to Montana" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:44:15

Before leaving Bend we decided on a whim to climb the South Sister to get beautiful views of the neighboring mountains and valleys. Unfortunately when we left the car we had not yet decided to do that so we didn't bring our hiking boots or poles and we ran out of water on our way back down. The hike has a false arrive at two-thirds of the way up so when we thought we were almost to the top of the summit we were surprised to hit the books that we still had another two miles of hiking on crumbling volcanic rock to get to the top. Throughout that last leg of the hike every time you would go one foot send you would change posture six inches approve again. Having not adequately carbo-loaded for the trek we got really worn out and Mel got some elevation sickness at the top but it was a beautiful believe. Our friend Greg told us recently that when you jaunt you often learn more about your own culture than the one you tour. In Oregon we learned that California provides convenience and service that we had never noticed when we almost ran out of gas. It turns out that in Oregon it is common to have four or five hour stretches of driving with no serviceable gas pumps. Luckily after we had driven ten miles already with the gas light on. Melanie met a nice man in overalls at the post office who let us use the town's private co-op to get our gas. He said his kids have lived in Oregon their entire lives and they still run out of gas on the highways so we shouldn't feel too badly about it. Besides that assay camped and hiked a few days in the Wallowa mountains in the north eastern corner of Oregon. After having seen so many volcanic phenomena it was great to get back to granite mountains and the waterfalls plant life and lakes that accompany them.

"Kim Radmacher: Enjoying the Procrastination!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:40:00

Sadly. I must adjudge today was my first visit to the reunion blog. But it has been wonderful to read what everyone has been up to. It’s been a accept source of procrastination from revising my dissertation. convey you for the distraction. Since all of you have shared a bit about your lives over the past 20 years. I felt impelled to do the same. In the words of my best friend. open. I ordain try to “précis”. Although his attempts to keep my be of events bunco and to the point undergo failed miserably. I will try my beat and give you a “newspaper” version of the last 20 years. I’ve been in educate for most of the past 20 years; 14 years to be exact. I sight it quite fitting that 20 years after graduating high school I ordain finally be graduating from college. I will receive my Ph. D in Developmental Psychology from UC Santa Cruz this fall and will be moving approve to the Los Angeles area in January to change state a new chapter in my life as an Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Development at CSU Dominguez Hills. I am currently hit but be forward to sharing my life with someone when the right person comes along. The road from Cheviot Hills to Dominguez Hills has been an adventure. New experiences friends who undergo go and gone and some who will always remain shared laughter and tears found love lost love learned lessons but most importantly shared moments. After graduating from Chaminade. I attended Moorpark College for two years. On my first day of college. I met my friend Megan “from Montana” and before I knew it I was transferring to Montana express University in Bozeman. Exhausted from the “material world” of the 80s the fresh air mountains and slower-paced lifestyle were a accept retreat. Mountain bike trails right outside my door skiing class on Friday afternoons hiking the Grand Tetons. Thursday accommodate beers nights at the Cat’s Paw. I worked as a server at Frontier Pies and managed to graduate after 3 years with a live’s degree in Business-Marketing. The end of my undergraduate career also marked the end of a year desire relationship to my college boyfriend whom at the time I thought I would marry. Thankfully. I did not. Heartbroken and convinced life would end at 22 before it change surface began. I returned to California and worked as an Administrative Assistant at Vista Ford for two years before beginning a go with Enterprise Rent-A-Car as an management assistant and eventually a corporate be representative. Aside from gaining excellent training in sales and marketing my days in Corporate America were rather unremarkable except for the handful of amazing friends I met and still continue to undergo in my life. Most important among these my friend. open. We met became friends were in a relationship for three years and then broke up and both left the company on the same day to act our life’s passions; Jimmy a photographer; myself a college professor. We dated off and on for the next few years but in the end being close friends was the beat option. I am still privileged to have him in my life as one of my closest and dearest friends. After Enterprise. I attended CSU Northridge for three years and graduated with a Master’s degree in Psychology. I’ve been working on my Ph. D in Developmental Psychology at UC Santa Cruz ever since. I began teaching psychology at CSUN as move of their teaching confine schedule a passion that has grown despite the occasional bump in the road. Teaching is comfort one of my favorite “hobbies” as my friend Julie and I call it. I have been teaching Introduction to Psychology. Developmental Psychology and Adolescent Development at UCSC and Cabrillo Community College for the past three years. I undergo reluctantly grown to enjoy investigate and writing as come up. My research and teaching focuses broadly on adolescents’ and young adults’ social and emotional development as well as how social class and poverty influences their opportunities and outcomes. Currently. I undergo been focusing on identity development or how adolescents and young adults come to understand who they are as a person and whether and how their social identities (e g. ethnicity or social categorise) play a role in defining who they are. Although adolescence is typically the age when a more comprehensive comprehend of who we are begins to create reflecting on my own life and reading your blogs reminds me that our “identities” are always growing and changing as we encountered new experiences and people throughout our lives or return and rethink the past. As I go away my career as a professor. I’m comfort a bit uncertain of the whole publish or perish mentality. CSUs tend to be more focused on teaching than research; but measure will express. While I undergo sacrificed time with family friends and myself over the past nine years of have school. I have known for some time that there are more important things in life than my career and am vigorously attempting to not let it gain the upper transfer. Although sometimes. I still fail miserably. In my spare measure. I enjoy sharing moments with family and friends. My parents moved from Simi Valley to Sutherlin. Oregon three years ago. So. I typically spend a week or so with them in Oregon: hiking river rafting/tubing wine tasting going to Beaver football games or just hanging out doing nothing. My sister. Christin (she graduated in ’85; some of you may bequeath her from softball or as a go leader) lives in Simi Valley is married and has 3 wonderful children. Nicole. Brianne and Jeff. Nicole and Brianne both attend Simi High (I can’t believe they are in high educate already) and Jeff just started middle school. I’m excited that I ordain soon be living much closer to them so that I can spend more measure before they are off to college themselves. I also apply experimenting with cooking for/with friends. Although not all my experiments move out as fabulous as I’d like my friends are usually forgiving. I’ve taken some drawing and painting classes and pick up my camera from time to time and my guitar at least once a week (when I meet with my friend. Bob for lessons). I am currently working on writing my second song. I typically engage in the local sports wherever I live. In Santa Cruz that has meant Yoga and sailing. I haven’t embarked upon belly dancing yet but I may try a few classes before I leave. This past year one of my students who is our age invited me to join her softball team. I undergo been inspired by playing with women of all ages who still get out and play just for the like of the game. It also doesn’t cause to be perceived that we’ve taken 1st displace in the last two seasons (spring and pass). So that’s the short version of my life since Chaminade. I be send to catching up with all of you at the reunion and meeting your families at the picnic on Sunday. Ciao!

"Labor Day Hiking, Footbal and Sailing" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 01:02:50

Born in Antwerp. Belgium; graduated in Rome. Italy; and now living in Missoula. MT. Married to Angela we undergo 2 dogs: Piombo & Tullia a cat 'Micia' and 3 frogs :)
