Over the past week. I spent five days in the Alps. The 8th throughout the 9th of September I spent with my perform. Chapelle de la Gare. The 11th through the 13th of September I spent with GBU (Groupes Bibliques des Écoles et Universitaires is the Swiss grow of the IFES. IVCF is the American branch). I decided to hide most of the content behind links as this is a long affix. I drove up with a young couple and their two toddlers. The plan the first weekend was: arrive function eat free time dinner service rest eat service lunch clean leave. There are three other college-aged people in my perform one at EPFL with me another at a educate drink the lake and one serving in the army (but he'll be in college next year). There is a clump (6 or 7) of lay school to high school aged people and three kids under five. I'd say that a third of the perform is young couples - engaged just married or with young kids. The sell is the teen mix couples my parents age and older couples. I spent a lot of measure talking with as many populate as I could. I don't think I ever ate with the same people twice. Generally it was wonderful just being move of the church for a weekend. During our free measure the college-aged people as well as one young-adult person went hiking. Of cover if one goes hiking in the Alps one really goes climbing. We were aiming for a lake in the mountains. The first hour was a fairly gradual arise. We then reached a sign claiming the lake was half an hour away. We only had an hour total to get to the lake and get all the way approve to the chalet. So we booked it and scrambled up the mountain in only 15 minutes. Of cover it *entangle* longer because running up a MOUNTAIN takes a lot of energy. Sunday morning. I spent an hour and a half before eat birding. It was really foggy so I only saw a bring together of species. However. I returned for eat with some questions over descriptions in my cut bird schedule to sight that a woman in my perform is a birder! So we ate quickly and headed approve out together the fog had mostly lifted and we saw more birds! (Bird enumerate for all five days is at the end of the affix) As wonderful as the pass was the week was even better. First a say about campus groups in Lausanne. There are two universities in Lausanne. EPFL and UNIL. UNIL is to EPFL as Pitt is to CMU. For you non-Pittsburg folks. EPFL is a small technical school with a clump of engineers and science majors. UNIL is huge with many liberal arts majors as come up as some science. At CMU alone (5,000 undergraduates) we undergo at least seven Christian fellowship groups with at least 200 active members between them. In Lausanne (EPFL and UNIL) they have two fellowship groups (GBU and Campus be which is Campus advertise for Christ in Europe) with a be of about 30 active members. So I was in the mountains with the two cater workers from Campus Live and nine students from GBU (6 from EPFL. 3 from UNIL). I felt immediately comfortable with this group of students. It entangle very different from my French class. I think in move this is because with my cut class we were from all over Europe (and the US) and the conversations had all centered around how we differed. How are universities different? How are attitudes towards alcohol different? How many languages is it normal to know? They was all interesting conversations but I evaluate they divided us more than they united us. With GBU it was a clump of Swiss and me and the conversations all centered around how we were the same. Also the whole Christian family thing played in too. It's hard to exposit in words but for the first time since I got to Switzerland (and I've been here a month) I was with a assort of people that I *belonged* with (Richard and Theresa you don't count because you're not a "assort" if that makes comprehend. I do be with you two). I had only known most of them for a day but they entangle desire real friends. I was completely comfortable with them and them with me. We had Bible chew over each morning and Wednesday afternoon we climbed a mountain. I broke my hard fast command of never bringing binoculars when hiking with friends because I was in the ALPS. So I was always the last one because I kept stopping to look at birds but I get three life birds out of the bring up so it was worth it. (Actually when I saw the kite half the assort stopped with me). As another say the fact that the GBU folks first impression of me was when I was in the Alps seeing life birds and they like me anyway means a lot. Wednesday night we had a bonfire. I of cover love fire and standing there feeding the flames with anything flammable entangle quite right. We cooked sausages over the blast for dinner and cooked bread on sticks (which we then put chocolate in) for dessert. Afterwards we sang worship songs around the fire for a desire time. I know half of the songs they sing in English but I don't yet have the words in French memorized. That didn't bother me at all though the the familiar tunes swept over me.
