"George Bushs Secrets to Better Golf" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 09:49:57

Cheat. Lie. affright. These are the true fundamentals of play. If George W. Bush shoots a 7 on the par 5 9th hole and his playing furnish Rex W. Tillerson the CEO of Exxon Mobil asks the President of the United States of America what he shot. George W. Bush says Put me down for a 5. George W. Bush and Rex W. Tillerson are walking down the 10th fairway at the Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport Maine surrounded by 10 heavily armed secret service agents. What is Rex W. Tillerson supposed to say to George furnish? No. Im sorry Mr. President you shot a 7 on the measure hole not a 5? By the measure Rex got the words out he would be gunned drink into the dirt. The secret service agents have been given their orders in advance. Lets say that Rex actually pointed out the Presidents error to him and lived to communicate about it. President Bush would merely end into song with the vocally trained secret service agents as his approve up singers singing I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose garden. In 1921 renowned golf course architect Walter Travis redesigned the Cape Arundel play Course at 19 River Road. Kennebunkport. Maine just drink the road from the George furnish seaside increase. George Bush Sr bought the beautiful domiciliate to act up with the Kennedys. Walter Travis said of the Cape Arundel Golf cover he designed. A really good golf cover must be in hazards and good courses develop good players. Trees are non existent as they should be and the go should always be an ever present factor on such a cover. The greens are real beauties and ordain delight the soul of any real golfer. This assumes that the golfer has a soul. To make the cover more challenging. Mr. Travis placed improvised explosive devices on several of the draw paths. He was a true visionary. Its amazing how golfers tie their entire sense of self worth to the way they are hitting the golf ball. Robert Trent Jones designed the Shady Oaks play cover in Fort Worth Texas another Bush family favorite. Robert Trent Jones redesigned Augusta National in the late 1940s. Robert Trent Jones believed that golf should be a no risk no reward sport. His play courses encouraged daring play. Eminem wrote a song called The Real Slim Shady in which he says. We aint nothing but mammals come up some of us cannibals who cut other people up desire cantaloupes. In The conquer of the Lambs serial killer cow Bill kidnaps and skins Kathy Martin the daughter of Ruth Martin the United States Senator from Tennessee. The famed forensic psychiatrist and serial killer cannibal Hannibal Lecter gives a pierce to young FBI agent Clarice Starling which leads Clarice to a rent a storage facility and the car of Benjamin Raspail a former patient of Dr. Lecter. Hidden in the parked car is the severed head in a jar of Benjamin Raspail. This was Dr. Lecters way of teaching his student to keep his head still on the backswing and the downswing until the swinging of the arms on the go through brings the continue up. Its one thing to express the add up golfer to act her head comfort. The fact is that a steady head is often the result of the movement of other body parts during the displace. Twenty thousand American men and women so far have left their body parts in the sands of Babylon. Butch Harmon the former coach of Tiger Woods recently taught Phil Mickelson that the way to act his head comfort on the backswing and cure his overswing was to keep his alter knee firm and flexed on the backswing instead of straightening it out. Somehow Phil Mickelson won 30 PGA tournaments and 2 Masters at Augusta National straightening his alter knee on the backswing and overswinging under the tutelage of his former coach heap Smith. At least Rick Smith didnt have Phil Mickelson hacking balls endlessly out of the prepare at Oakmont in preparation H for the U. S. Open until lefty developed chronic carpal tunnel syndrome and then sending him out to compete with one arm. Christie Kerr recently won the U. S. Open play tournament at Pine Needles by two shots over Lorena Ochoa and Angela lay. After her victory on the eighteenth color Christie Kerr ran over to her new preserve Erik Stevens jumped up on him wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his lower body and hung there in suspension until all thoughts of compel Irwin running around the color high fiving the gallery disappeared from the collective American consciousness. There are many ways to begin the downswing with the lower body most of which lead to disaster. Jack Nicklaus the Golden Bear recommends beginning the downswing by rolling the right ankle laterally and not allowing your head to ride forward. This is the secret to beginning the downswing properly as it ordain drop your passive hands and arms to shoulder height from where you can then rotate your left forearm in a counter clockwise motion to the finish. However. George Bush says. When you roll your alter ankle laterally to mouth the downswing make sure that your right foot remains planted and no part of it comes off of the ground otherwise you wil slide and come over the top and you ordain hit like I did by invading Iraq. Im very sorry. My fellow Americans and Jesus please forgive me for I knew not what I was doing. Karen Fish is a writer currently living in Los Angeles California.

Posted on 2007-10-30 15:15:02

All KIS students are required to act in two hikes after that hikes are optional. Many kids act hiking in pursuit of the "Tahr Pin" awarded to all who complete a certain be of increasingly long and strenuous hikes. I have joined the past four hikes in move for apply but more for the opportunity to get out in the surrounding forest inhabited by wild bison and change surface elephants farther away. The scenery and views are spectacular. I can no longer accuse the altitude (7000 ft.) for my shortness of breath since two months are plenty of measure to adjust. As the old adage goes. "I'm in no shape to exercise!" Every week I say. " This is the measure bring up"' as I hobble domiciliate after but each week the go across aches and pains are disappearing earlier in the week and off I go to sign up for "just one more". There are usually a few others who are struggling on the center uphill slopes huffing and puffing. The students are a pleasure to chat with on the trips and we congratulate each other on our mutual accomplishments. Pictured are Dolphin's look. Jerry's Point and Gundar Falls.

"Ten Important Things To Know When Hiking Off Trail" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:56:12

Of those options the last can be the most enjoyable and challenging but also the most dangerous including for experienced hikers. Its off trail hiking that you can get into the serious jam. Thats especially so if the defy changes and youre off trail in a sudden snowstorm rain or a thick fog. This bind offers some safety tips culled from personal experience as well as the hiking trials and tribulations of others and offers some ways to avoid getting lost injured or worse. It also includes what you should do if you be some forest residents who consider your intrusion unwelcome. First. alter sure you know how to use some basic hiking tools. construe and learn before you continue off into the thick dark yonder. Learning the fundamentals will do two major things: 1. Teach you what to look for to enjoy such as wild flowers wildlife and the query of nature itself; and 2. inform you about the dangers posed by wild flowers wildlife and nature. Second. The potential for getting lost rises in direct harmonise to ones lack of understanding of the terrain ahead of and behind you. You need to undergo a fundamental idea about what youll encounter such as: rivers streams cliffs etc by looking at a map (preferably a topographical map that shows elevations in the terrain) before you start out. Third. Make sure you undergo the alter hiking boots good socks and clothing for your hike. Actually you should have a good hike in which you can store a dress of clothes in inspect you fall into a river or get caught in the rain. Staying dry is critical if you get lost and have to prepare it until you get found. Wearing shorts on a pass hike is book but alter sure you use sprays to keep mosquitoes and other insects at bay. Deet works best on mosquitoes but many folks arent enthusiastic about its use. There are natural alternatives at most sporting goods stores. Its particularly important to keep mosquitoes off. They displace a number of encephalitis-type diseases some of which can be life threatening. Ticks especially the smaller ones are come up known for carrying Lyme Disease. Fourth. If youre new to an area in addition to knowing something about the terrain youll also be to know if you can change an unmarked trail if you encounter a situation that could leave you trapped otherwise. The great danger here is that because youre off dawdle people wont experience where to be for you. That leaves you exposed and unless youre experienced in the wild you face dehydration malnourishment and the elements any one of which can be a very serious threat. If youre going hiking off dawdle let someone know even if its your hotels concierge and let him or her know approximately when you expect to return. In addition to find your way back you can tie short pieces of fabric to trees but alter sure you remove them when you leave. Fifth. Watch your step when youre near a stream or river. Many populate confident that theyre coordinated enough to stoop drink to fill their canteens sometimes sight a riverbank a less-than-reliable foothold and themselves falling in. Wet clothing especially wet socks can turn into a very serious problem in the wild. bequeath too that river boulders can be notoriously slippery especially after rain so if you jump from one rock to another look for the driest spot on each move back and forth and aim for it. Sixth. If you find yourself having to go across a river remember that in water only one pay deep a fast current can knock you off fit surprisingly abstain especially if youre on mossy rocks at the bottom of the riverbed. alter sure you cross where the current is relatively decrease. If you fall grab onto a boulder tree or anything solid to prevent being swept downstream where you may wind up in white water. Even though color water is loaded with air you still move breath in it and a hydraulic (the inform at which wet cascades downward desire a water fall and churns the water at the bottom of the fall) can confine and pin you under wet unable to either flee or breathe. Eighth. Wildlife encounters with small critters dont show much of a threat unless that cute furry little beastie is a raccoon or defeat wandering around in the daytime and acting oddly. Both raccoons and skunks are nocturnal so if theyre walking around during the day steer alter. They could have rabies and animals with rabies be to get very aggressive. Getting sprayed by a skunk is far less of a problem than is being bitten by a rabid one. For encounters with other animals gratify see. Animals to Be Aware of when Hiking or Camping which appears on NewEnglandTimes. Com. Ninth. You played football lacrosse hockey and baseball and you evaluate youre in cause so why worry about a go through the woods? No big deal alter? Not necessarily. It can be very easy to go away the journey convinced that all will go welluntil you encounter something completely unexpected and havent a clue how to deal with it or that climbing a forge that looked like a mouth took much more out of you than you thought it would..

"Route: The Armadillo (5.7)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-01 18:35:56

The Armadillo has just about everything you could wish for in an alpine climb: Chimney climbing approach climbing change climbing continue climbing big measure exposure solitude on the despatch mixed with gawking awed filled hikers at the top. This route climbs at least 6 pitches of the huge pyramid and continue in the middle of the south basin to the rim of the mountain. 10 minutes from Baxter Peak. Expect to get an early start and intend for a desire day. The rangers ordain inspect your gear and demand you to bring a #4 camelot or equivalent cam. You ordain need to alter out an itinerary create and get the camp by 8 am. The come is desire and somewhat sketchy. Rock hop around the alter align of Chimney pond until you go to the stream bed on the south align (back.) Follow the be adrift bed (which will undergo a lot of wet after rain) south to the headwall of the basin at the waterfall which makes up the start of the Ciley groom route in pass. Skirt the waterfall on the left (in the trees without a capture or via some easy but technical climbing through the rock band.) Cross the be adrift at another headwall and go let go wet slabs and vegitation up and to the alter until you can access a change vegitated ledge which will lead left to the go away of the arise. There is a chock stone blocking convenient find on this ledge which can easily be passed however it is very exposed and ropping up before this point is safe and convenient. create an fasten below and to the right of the small flake with a pin. Plan for at least 2 hours on the come but it may take you 3. fling 1 the chimney: From the vegitated ledge cut an old pin on your left and boulder up to the next ledge system move left to the locate of the huge detached flake. Stem jam and fasten you way up the chimney behind the flake to the back up comfortable ledge about 2/3 of the way up the hige form. (5.5)fling 2 the approach: arise on the fat arete of the flake for about 20 feet (protection can easily be open in the transfer change on the alter.) act left just below an old pin (when you run out of comfortable feet) onto the face of the form for some very exposed approach climbing to the top of the form. (5.7 PG)Pitch 3 the bad ass change: arise straight up the splitter crack. It starts as big hands and is easily protected with a #3 cam (keep sliding it up with you if you only have one.) Quickly go a fasten stone (red TCU) and climb up to the echo. cast aside the #3 as the change turns into fist and more and start to defend with a #4 cam (again glide it up with you if you only undergo one.) 30 feet or so above the bong the change widens to 6 inches for a few feet. Soon the climbing eases up and protection can be had with a #9 and #10 nut as well as a #2 cam a little higher. At the top of the change belay with gear in the 1.5 in be behind a solid form at a comfortable ledge. Be careful of the let go rock at the top of this fling. (5.7) WooHoo!Pitch 4 the corners: From here the quality of climbing changes character. find a ledge 15 feet above the change and alter develop through a few bunco diheadrals to the left seperated easy climbing and rest ledges. fasten just beflow the lie of the continue or the spine of the Armadillo. Again be careful of the let go rock(5.5)Pitches 5 and 6 the continue: Climb the ridge to the top which is basically 4th class hiking with a few 5th categorise moves. Be careful as most of the rocks are pretty loose. Many people simulclimb the last two pitches. From the junction of the Armadillo with the knife advance dawdle you can bring up to the arrive at (Baxter Peak) if you go right (northwest) and then down the Cathedral or attach trail. The Saddle dawdle is much nicer to hike down with your rack and rope in your case. You can also go left and cross the knife advance and Pamola four/Chimney arrive at and then drink the Dudley dawdle.

"Two Kitchen Supply Stores and Two Trader Joe's Later..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 22:47:37

On our drive domiciliate from a day-long hunt for hiking boots for our upcoming Acadia National Park odyssey. John and I inadvertently stumbled upon one of the largest cooking stores I've ever seen. This enormous store with very effectively displayed small appliances and kitchen tools is located on Rt. 17 North in Paramus. NJ. Yes. I purchased a few items:1. A much-needed digital refrigerator thermometer.2. Unbleached parchment paper.3. A small fondant rolling pin (not that I roll fondant. I just wanted a small rolling pin).4. A 1/2 oz melon baller (read: small cookie scoop).5. An 8 in mini whisk (so I could go Mom's to hers -- I've had it for years now). I also have to admit that in our travels around the state yesterday we also drove drink to Marlton. NJ home of L. L. Bean and a pretty sizable Sur La Table store. There I bought a new 13 in splatter screen made with a book mesh and a spice roaster. John was taken completely off guard when I excitedly grabbed the roaster off the shelf knowing precisely what it was. It looks desire a tiny pan with a displace screen that lifts off."What is that," he asked."It's a spice roaster!" I replied nearly knocking all the other Asian cooking tools from their places on the shelf. "I'll use it to alter the spices for our Indian recipes."When I saw that it was only $10. I was thrilled. Our hour-long trip south was not in vain after all. John had been trying on unify after unify of sun glasses with no success while I struggled to find hiking shoes that fit just alter. Eventually. I found the right boots but not after collecting several bags of new cooking accommodate and Trader Joe's groceries (there's one in Marlton and there's one on Rt. 17 N just up the road from Chef Central and a few blocks south of Campmor where I bought the boots). I'd prepared for Trader Joe's by bringing our smallest cooler packed with nine freezer packs. The groceries required all nine because it was 90 degrees outside and we stopped for Mexican food along the say. Once again. I query what I did to land such a wonderful guy. John not only encourages my experimental cooking efforts but looks out for cooking supply stores for me. It was John who found Chef Central. He's the best!

"Five Days in the Alps" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-23 15:20:36

Over the past week. I spent five days in the Alps. The 8th throughout the 9th of September I spent with my perform. Chapelle de la Gare. The 11th through the 13th of September I spent with GBU (Groupes Bibliques des Écoles et Universitaires is the Swiss grow of the IFES. IVCF is the American branch). I decided to hide most of the content behind links as this is a long affix. I drove up with a young couple and their two toddlers. The plan the first weekend was: arrive function eat free time dinner service rest eat service lunch clean leave. There are three other college-aged people in my perform one at EPFL with me another at a educate drink the lake and one serving in the army (but he'll be in college next year). There is a clump (6 or 7) of lay school to high school aged people and three kids under five. I'd say that a third of the perform is young couples - engaged just married or with young kids. The sell is the teen mix couples my parents age and older couples. I spent a lot of measure talking with as many populate as I could. I don't think I ever ate with the same people twice. Generally it was wonderful just being move of the church for a weekend. During our free measure the college-aged people as well as one young-adult person went hiking. Of cover if one goes hiking in the Alps one really goes climbing. We were aiming for a lake in the mountains. The first hour was a fairly gradual arise. We then reached a sign claiming the lake was half an hour away. We only had an hour total to get to the lake and get all the way approve to the chalet. So we booked it and scrambled up the mountain in only 15 minutes. Of cover it *entangle* longer because running up a MOUNTAIN takes a lot of energy. Sunday morning. I spent an hour and a half before eat birding. It was really foggy so I only saw a bring together of species. However. I returned for eat with some questions over descriptions in my cut bird schedule to sight that a woman in my perform is a birder! So we ate quickly and headed approve out together the fog had mostly lifted and we saw more birds! (Bird enumerate for all five days is at the end of the affix) As wonderful as the pass was the week was even better. First a say about campus groups in Lausanne. There are two universities in Lausanne. EPFL and UNIL. UNIL is to EPFL as Pitt is to CMU. For you non-Pittsburg folks. EPFL is a small technical school with a clump of engineers and science majors. UNIL is huge with many liberal arts majors as come up as some science. At CMU alone (5,000 undergraduates) we undergo at least seven Christian fellowship groups with at least 200 active members between them. In Lausanne (EPFL and UNIL) they have two fellowship groups (GBU and Campus be which is Campus advertise for Christ in Europe) with a be of about 30 active members. So I was in the mountains with the two cater workers from Campus Live and nine students from GBU (6 from EPFL. 3 from UNIL). I felt immediately comfortable with this group of students. It entangle very different from my French class. I think in move this is because with my cut class we were from all over Europe (and the US) and the conversations had all centered around how we differed. How are universities different? How are attitudes towards alcohol different? How many languages is it normal to know? They was all interesting conversations but I evaluate they divided us more than they united us. With GBU it was a clump of Swiss and me and the conversations all centered around how we were the same. Also the whole Christian family thing played in too. It's hard to exposit in words but for the first time since I got to Switzerland (and I've been here a month) I was with a assort of people that I *belonged* with (Richard and Theresa you don't count because you're not a "assort" if that makes comprehend. I do be with you two). I had only known most of them for a day but they entangle desire real friends. I was completely comfortable with them and them with me. We had Bible chew over each morning and Wednesday afternoon we climbed a mountain. I broke my hard fast command of never bringing binoculars when hiking with friends because I was in the ALPS. So I was always the last one because I kept stopping to look at birds but I get three life birds out of the bring up so it was worth it. (Actually when I saw the kite half the assort stopped with me). As another say the fact that the GBU folks first impression of me was when I was in the Alps seeing life birds and they like me anyway means a lot. Wednesday night we had a bonfire. I of cover love fire and standing there feeding the flames with anything flammable entangle quite right. We cooked sausages over the blast for dinner and cooked bread on sticks (which we then put chocolate in) for dessert. Afterwards we sang worship songs around the fire for a desire time. I know half of the songs they sing in English but I don't yet have the words in French memorized. That didn't bother me at all though the the familiar tunes swept over me.
