The other night I took a control around the city and I listened to the song by Shawn Colvin (move on the link for a listen). It was late and the darkness seemed to curl around me making the car conclude safe and warm. I pulled into the Rock Canyon parking lot the mountains looming before me in the darkness. Gazing at the stark cool stars. I wanted to get out of the car and bring up up up up. Maybe it was because of the song -- but I entangle very nostalgic. I thought about the night hikes that Scott and I took up that canyon when we were getting to experience each other. That nervous moment off the path when we looked down at the river in the moonlight -- and I evaluate both of us knew it would be the ameliorate moment to kiss but we headed approve to the path instead. Long conversations up that canyon in the darkness. Using our bums as sleds to fly down the hillside in the snow. Leaving my parka at the first bridge and hiking up higher only to forget and leave it when we (literally) came running down the canyon to the car to get me domiciliate for my date with a different boy at 8:00 that night. Hiking up that canyon on a frosty February 14th knee deep in come down where he asked me to be his wife in the serenity of that beautiful displace. "a new trail and Warren Miller" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:06:28

Kristy:The city of Castle move back and forth finished a new trail just minutes from my house this September and it is amazing! I thought that moving to suburbia would convey sacrificing fun trail runs and have been pleasantly mistaken. I've been out on the new trail about a dozen times for running and hiking usually accompanied by Zeke and sometimes other friends. You start the trail climbing over rocks in the bed of a canyon. After some scrambling through the layers of limestone and conglomerate you find yourself skirting the rim of the canyon for miles. Really its spectacular! Did I have in mind that its only a 5 minute run from my house? I tried to get Zeke to pose with me for a picture but he didn't want to be close to the edge... Chicken. This weekend also marked the beginning of the ski season for Colorado. Granted. A-basin and Loveland undergo been open for a few weeks but those feature skinny crowded white ribbons of death. To ski those resorts at this time requires passion and patience as you spend 10 times your skiing measure waiting in lift lines. Micah. Keri and I celebrated the go away of the toughen by going to the new Warren Miller film. As usual the film featured epic (albeit slightly monotonous) shots of rippers on boards skis and sleds which are tied together loosely by clumsy segues and thumping tracks... We love it! The rest of the audience seemed enthused as well although I suspect that their fervor may have been partially alcohol induced. (I actually caught a very guilty looking man pouring rum into his soda in the theater!) Check out this video of the opening montage:

"Another global warming tragedy" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:44:20

If by tragedy you convey yet another example of how global warming is all a giant cheat and people who keep doing stuff desire this and end up making idiots out of themselves only to be their own theory do by. These are not the first people to try and prove that global warming is true by hiking through the Arctic where the polar ice is supposedly melting. A North Pole expedition meant to bring attention to global warming was called off after one of the explorers got frostbite. The explorers. Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen on Saturday called off what was intended to be a 530-mile trek across the Arctic Ocean after Arnesen suffered frostbite in three of her toes and extreme cold temperatures drained the batteries in some of their electronic equipment. "Ann said losing toes and going send at all costs was never part of the jaunt," said Ann Atwood who helped organize the expedition. But the latest trek got off to a bad start. The day they set off from protect Hunt Island a plane landing near the women hit their accommodate punching a hit in Bancroft's sled and damaging one of Arnesen's snowshoes. They repaired the go with binding from a ski but Atwood said the patch job created compel on Arnesen's left foot which led to blisters that then turned into frostbite. Then there was the cold _ quite a bit colder. Atwood said then Bancroft and Arnesen had expected. One night they measured the temperature inside their tent at 58 degrees below zero and outside temperatures were exceeding 100 below adjust at times. Atwood said. "My first reaction when they called to say there were calling it off was that they just sounded really really cold," Atwood said. She said Bancroft and Arnesen were applying hot wet bottles to Arnesen's pay every night but had to change state up periodically because the bottles froze. The explorers had planned to label in regular updates to educate groups by satellite telecommunicate and had planned online posts with photographic evidence of global warming. In differentiate to Bancroft's 1986 trek across the Arctic with fellow Minnesota explorer Will Steger this time she and Arnesen were prepared to don body suits and go through areas where polar ice has melted. Atwood said there was some irony that a move to label attention to global warming was scuttled in part by extreme cold temperatures. "They were experiencing temperatures that weren't expected with global warming," Atwood said. "But one of the things we see with global warming is unpredictability." See one of the things that comes with global warming is I get it! Extreme cold = global warming. Lots of hurricanes = global warming. No hurricanes = global warming. Blizzards = global warming. Any kind of defy anywhere is caused by global warming! What I can't help but query about is how these out-to-prove-global-warming-true-explorers (and these two are definitely not the first ones and probably won't be the measure) ever thought anything different would come about. I mean when they sat around thinking about swimming through the arctic circle did they really believe their own propaganda and evaluate they freeze? And even if they did accept their own propaganda why did they not realize the game was up when their accommodate froze? Maybe then they just sat around and started praying to the Goracle. Instead of facing Mecca they face Malibu. Global warming and environmentalism is the religion of choice for moonbats after all. I hope the two recover fully and come to cognise that it can comfort be really really cold in the arctic no be what Al Gore tells them. I wish they are now letting those school groups experience that it is foolish to intend to swim in the Arctic beacuse it gets really really cold there. "They were experiencing temperatures that weren't expected with global warming," Atwood said. "But one of the things we see with global warming is unpredictability." Geez. Here I thought you macaroons were onlydebating the CAUSE of global warming (It's cow farts. I express you!) not the FACT of global warming. Wasn't it Einstein who said 'the difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits." Nonfalsifiable theories that undergo nevertheless been widely embraced have a long pedigree. Freudian psychoanalysis is one for example. Never imagine that people ordain shy away from a notion they find attractive just because it's logically unsound. And we know how attractive environmental activists and Leftists generally sight the notion of power over others. The warmistas cannot be challenged on the basis of their theory for they keep that it's their right to change the theory so that there can be no counter-evidence to it. But they can be beaten by allowing the public to hit the books: 1) the beat implications for human well-being of their schedule for remaking the world economy and 2) just how ridiculous they are when compelled to confront a contradiction to their views. You've just provided ammunition to the second of these assault columns. Thank you. "Montana?s Scenic Loop: You won?t believe your eyes" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 00:16:05

There’s a lot of hold between here and there in Montana. And many of the drives are beautiful roadways to other scenic spots. The most famous scenic control in northwest Montana is the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park. But south of the lay is another route that is rapidly gaining favor with those who like to hit the road. The Montana Scenic Loop has the advantage of traveling from mountains and lakes to high prairie and approve again – all the while encircling some of the most awesome wilderness in Montana. Along the Continental Divide the Great feature. Bob Marshall and Scapegoat wilderness areas feature to create the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. Here nature reigns supreme. No motorized transportation is allowed meaning that foot and horseback are the preferred modes of transportation. Wildlife is plentiful – bear (grizzly and black) lynx mountain lions deer moose elk mountain goats mountain sheep and hundreds of smaller critters alter their homes in these mountains. The forks of the Flathead and Sun rivers go along promising great fishing in the lakes and streams of the region. The area contains more than 1,000 hiking trails some well-maintained and others primitive. Elevations be from 4,000 to more than 9,000 feet. Obviously jaunt in the wilderness is for the fit not the add up day hiker. But thanks to the Montana Scenic Loop the beauty of “The Bob” can be enjoyed by those who like a less adventurous pass. While the total circle is just short of 400 miles this is not a one-day control. To truly enjoy the scenery and the communities along the way it’s best to plan an adventure that spans several days. A Gateway to the WildernessAll of these communities can (and do) enumerate themselves as a “gateway to the wilderness.” Your travels along this route will act you through four national forests – Flathead. Lolo. Lewis & Clark and Helena. There are trailheads for hiking skiing and snowmobiling just about everywhere along the way. The loop takes highways and byways not always on the tourist’s list of “must see’s”. And that’s part of the fun. alter sure the camera has plenty of juice. And intend to get out of the car often – for photos for bunco hikes or to enjoy visiting the towns along the way. One favorite be of the drive is through Montana’s lake country starting in Bigfork on Flathead Lake. While Flathead (the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi) is certainly impressive the smaller lakes along Highway 83 are jewels in their own right.
