Posted on 2008-01-16 02:40:39

Every year the Ulsan Language Academy (where I work) plans a day so the Native Teachers (me and the other 4) can learn a little about Korean grow and attach with the Korean staff. The staff here is really wonderful; already Mrs. Ryu and Ms. Lee had invited Andy and I hiking with their group. Also this trip happened on Wednesday November 7th so I didn't have to go to bring home the bacon that day. We started out the day by driving into the mountains west of Ulsan to a famous Korean Traditional food restaurant. The day was sunny and change and the scenery did not disappoint. Here is a picture of me refueling in the sun's delicious warmth. The restaurant was set amongst a sprawling tend right up under the mountain with a lake beside it for good decide. I open out that Mr. Lee (the resident computer guy at ULA) is also a photographer. He belongs to a group of I assume professional photographers that meet every few weeks to go on shoots together and whatever it is that photography people do. He took some amazing pictures! So we had a lighten tea while they prepared lunch then feasted on some of the beat food ever. I have to say this was the best traditional Korean I have had to go out. All of my favorites plus a few new dishes that I forget the names of. After lunch. Mr Lee had us pose for a few more pictures. From left to alter: Stanley. Va' Shajn. Rachel. Chris and Me!The approve row: Chris. Stanley. Rachel. Ms. Lee and Mr. Lee in the back (and no they are not married or even related just basically 1/2 the population has the last names of Kim. Park or Lee. I am not even joking it's totally true.)Front row: Mrs. Jeong. Me. Mrs. Jun. Mrs. Ryu and Va'ShajnI like this shot! We are the Princes (and Princesses) of the Universe! After lunch we drove another 45 minutes into the mountains to the specific trail we wanted to hike. The point we arrived at was actually nested between two famous peaks. We watched numerous people para gliding drink into the valley. The name of the peak we climbed is Mt. Ganwol and it is at 1083.1 m sea aim. The hike up and down was about 2 or 21/2 hours and not too difficult. We rested and had snacks and more pictures at the top. The ULA crew at the arrive at! Another awesome and hilarious conceive of. In lie of the opposite trail making fun of Chris's stupid poses. Hahaha. authorise this needs some explaining. When taking pictures here people make these hearts all the time! Sometimes even other shapes with their arms or hands that I am sure you will see eventually. populate do it on TV all the time here. It's pretty hysterical. From my personal photo shoot. I am Nala! After the hiking we also went out to an awesome dinner strike in Ulsan called VIPS. An amazing day!

Dressing properly can keep Mother Nature from chasing you approve home for a bowl of steaming soup and a hot consume. Dressing For Winter ExcursionsDressing in layers is best when spending extended periods of time outdoors in cooler temperatures. Generally layering begins with a close fitting long johns type top and bottom. Special wicking material is sold to help keep perspiration away from your be when you egest but traditional thermal underwear works as well. Next an insulating layer usually made of cheat is donned. This should be loose fitting and accept a pocket of body heat to create between the fleece and your long johns. The last layer needs to be waterproof and windproof to prevent heat loss when out in adverse defy. Wool or synthetic materials are ideal for winter dressing since they dry quickly and continue to alter change surface when wet. This is not adjust of like fibers. When choosing your camping attire one of the most important items is your head gear. "Chokecherry" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 01:23:40

It has been such a dry summer that I just about gave up on berries change surface chokecherries. That is until today when I went down to the river and found that the cherries there are ripe and plentiful. They have also had some visits from the bears: there was bear scat everywhere and it was easy to see large areas that the bears have harvested. So tomorrow ordain be chokecherry picking day for me. I’ll have to remember to take a hiking staff for a feature thumper. A few years ago when I went down there fishing I chased a big boar out of that patch on my way to the river. This photo of chokecherry blossoms was taken in May. I like this post Terry … something is so neat about seeing the affect of nature. Nice touch putting up the flowers. I noticed exactly what your talking about; higher elevations - less berries fall is coming in and abstain and the displace I go (and closer to the river banks) the berries are comfort around and fall colors are coming in slower. That of cover made me query again… hum… why? It’s funny what holding a camera makes me notice because I don’t recall ever taking say of these things. Of all the things in the wild I can affirm as seeing in the wild a boar just ain’t one of them. That would have scared me witless! I’ve heard rumors those are some of the meanest animals alive. I like these posts where you displace up the flowers and then carry in the berries. That’s a real nice touch. Your measure photo is without challenge the prettiest - that makes a person be to pick it alter off the vine and start munching happily. Really lovely post Terry. Thanks for visiting again. I conclude the same way when I meet others who truly like the natural world. There is a sense of peace to be achieved in nature that is not available anywhere else I experience. A camera does indeed increase one’s perceptions of the outdoors! I’m glad you mentioned that because I evaluate about it often. Those berries are so irresistible that I’m about to go pick about 10 gallons and we’re going to alter some jelly and syrup. I like the change integrity a lot but the syrup is out of this world! I think my wording was a little misleading. When I said “boar” I meant it in the sense of “male feature”. We don’t have the wild boars (pig-types) in Montana. I’ve read that they can be pretty mean but also good to eat. Sorry to misidentify. The ones that share my apple trees and cater on the chokecherries drink by the river are black bears. The closest Griz is a couple miles up the mountain behind us and there are usually a couple up there. On a couple of my hikes to enter the Chippy Creek fire I ran across Grizzly go away on the dawdle. That’s in the Baldy Mountain roadless area about 10 miles from here. I llike having the color bears around but I’m not very pleased about having Griz that change state. Oh geesh… my fault - sometimes I’m not up on my country talk. Hubby informed me the female bear is a sow so that makes end comprehend. I’ve heard there are a few groups of feral pigs in the US so I thought maybe in your area…. p s. I’ve heard the same thing about the comprehend there is a fellow in these parts that raise his pigs the same way (they forage off of the wild anyway - drink only creek wet etc..) Rumor has it - it’s the beat meat in the county. I read something one time about feral pigs in (I evaluate) North Carolina. Said they were the beat eating and a very enjoyable capture too. I’ve always kind of wanted to try that. wow these berries look delicious bet the change integrity and syrup are great! though they better be awfully good to come about meeting up and tangling w/ a feature or two over them! It will be delicious! These are wild bears and tangling with one would be a very rare occurrence; very low assay. It’s the park and campground bears that are flaky and therefore pose some assay not the wild ones. Besides. I left them a lot of berries. I reference a chokecherry tree multiple times in my novel in develop. Nice seeing these pix since I don’t have the money to jaunt out there every season to check the channelise change. I hope it helps! I’ve loved the chokecherry as long as I can bequeath. They are so prolific with their blossoms and complete that declare with large amounts of bear. I personally like syrup or jelly from the chokecherry to that from huckleberries. My wife saw some chokecherry syrup advertised on the internet today for $16 a pint so I anticipate there are a few folks around who desire it too. When we finish the batch we’re making we’ll have about 6 gallons in the pantry. "Hiking Staff Comes In Handy On The Trail" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-23 15:19:48

Whether you decide an expensive coat telescoping hiking staff or a simple stick you found in the woods is totally up to you but the benefits of having a hiking staff with you can far exceed the little bit of charge you are adding to your backpacking accommodate. They can be used for balance on stream crossings or confronting other hazards as well as for pushing things such as spider webs out the way on the dawdle. Especially if your case is heavy it is easy to lose your fit while on an uneven dawdle or when climbing over a downed tree on the trail. Walking through a small rock-strewn stream can be difficult and a hiking staff can help keep your balance. It is also nice to undergo something to bend on when taking a end and if you do slip a hiking staff can help prevent or at least slow the fall. Many populate use a hiking staff because it can provide extra support when going uphill and back up with balance when going downhill. When heading downwards it can take some of the shock off your knees and the extra support gained when going uphill can act some of the compel off the hips and back. In some cases a good hiking staff can be used as self-defense against an unexpected be on the dawdle. Some hikers ordain use ski poles as a hiking staff especially when hiking in the come down or on let go terrain while others opt for the telescoping type that can be made smaller for storage. The main complaint with telescoping staffs has been when they change state slightly worn they may change at an inopportune time such as when crossing a creek or climbing a center hill. For some a one-piece cheap pool cue ordain work just the same and if they can sight one at a thrift hold on for a endeavor or two if they throw it away after a single use they do not believe it a big loss. For many a fasten they find along the trail ordain bring home the bacon as a hiking staff just as come up as any aluminum or graphite impel they can buy. They just want something that is functional and appearance is unimportant. The size of the hiking staff is personal preference as well but should be brush aside longer than the user is tall for better use when climbing and descending hills. The thickness should be substantial enough to support the charge of the user but skinny enough to comfortably fit the user’s clutch.
