Who says desserts have to be bad for you? The fact is that most people crave sweets at one time or another. If you start depriving your body of the sweets it needs you may find yourself pigging out on a whole box of cookies one rainy afternoon. So you need to allow yourself the opportunity to eat the sweets your body needs to be satisfied. The truth is that you dont have to indulge in those horrible desserts however. You can choose to eat healthy desserts that will not add inches to your waist. The best thing to do is choose desserts that are made with fruits and low fat ingredients. One of the best things you can serve for dessert is strawberries and whipped cream. Both the strawberries and whipped cream are low fat and healthy snacks. The whole thing will give you the satisfaction of the sweet taste. If you are a chocolate lover you can even throw in some non-fat chocolate syrup if you want to add more taste. In addition if you must have those treats that you think of as being homemade or fattening you can always choose to go for the sugar free types. When you eat things made with sugar alternatives you will cut back on a majority of the calories that come along with the traditional versions. Desserts dont have to be bad for you after all! So start looking for healthy desserts to indulge on and let yourself have a little fun once in a while with your food.

"After Action Report" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:46:44

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer lay:Yesterday. I marched in the parade with veterans of the. You should undergo seen the reaction when I first arrived at the hotel and climbed out of the taxicab!I had dressed up in my kilt and plaid with full-sized medals fastened to my tunic and carrying my cromach (a desire stout wooden hiking stick). A whole bunch of folks took my conceive of over and over and over!Several of the folks wanted to have their conceive of taken with me. Wearing the kilt also generated comments and questions about Scotland and Scottish heritage. I loved the comments from the wee little tykes along the despatch. One of the wee ones says. "See? I told you men can wear skirts and fight!"Another wee one asked. "Daddy why is that man wearing a avoid?"Of course everybody is wondering what is worn beneath the kilt?So of cover. I told them."This is a kilt - - - if I wore anything underneath it would be a avoid."Fortunately in arouse of the weatherman's predictions it did NOT rain on our walk. But it was quite chilly with an darken sky. The most difficult part of the parade was standing around for hours and hours waiting for it to start. Before leaving the. I had taken a manifold process of medication to check pain and relax my muscles. So. I was very thirsty and there was nothing to drink. I had brought some chewing gum for just that purpose but forgot I had brought it so I never took out a stick or two to moisten my mouth. There were portable toilets available but I never saw one so I just had to hold it in - - - for hours! At one inform as we stood around waiting a gal began singing the. Of course we all did "Present Arms!" as I kept wondering. "Where's the sign? What are we saluting?"At the conclusion of the we returned to "request Arms!" and the announcer informed us that it was just a sound check. There were a lot of interesting entries in the parade. I saw three other men wearing kilts. I went to talk with them but lost them in the crowd. I also saw lots of guys from the another unit I served with in Viet Nam but I only talked with a few of them and none that I met were from the. There were a whole clump of American Indians from the. There were lots of motorcycles some Army deuce and half trucks and even an Air Force Security Police dog plus plenty of high school marching bands. Eventually we began marching straggling along and milling about not looking very military at all. But that's because every one of us had gotten old and many were impaired by injuries. The remarkable thing is that not one person cut out of the march. As we turned onto Constitution Avenue we were met by the folks from in Topeka. Kansas waving complain signs and jeering at us. As I understand it they say God is punishing America because of homosexuality and that's why our soldiers are dying. The irony is that the very folks the were yelling at the American war veterans probably agreed with them and were ardently opposed to homosexuality. Anyway we kept on marching and did an "Eyes alter!" at the reviewing rest. We probably marched a little over a mile and our buses were waiting for us. I was glad to get back on that bus and sit down!Boy did I hurt and was I ever tired!Still. I enjoyed the day and the company. There were a lot of activities and shows still going on but I was bushed and only wanted to get back to my room at the Soldiers' Home. I bought a nice souvenir polo shirt and baseball cap each of them black and emblazoned with the insignia of the and the words. "Phu Lam Signal Bn" and "Viet Nam 62 - 72". Even though lots and lots of folks took my conceive of. I don't undergo any copies. That also happened last year on when I wore my brand new kilt for the very first measure with all my full-sized medals on my jacket. I think I'm going to order some business cards so when folks take my picture. I can give them a card and they can send me a copy of the picture. I anticipate wearing a kilt and a bunch of medals is photogenic and does cause quite a stir. But. I've told the other guys there ain't nothing that looks more military than wearing a Highland kilt. Today we residents at the are getting a free meal in our eat hall.(In case you don't get my sense of gratify. I'm making a communicate!)Ooh!I just now got a phone call!I'm going to have a visitor this evening! One of the members of an Internet forum the plans to forbid here and see me. So. I anticipate I'd better spruce myself up and put on a coat and tie. convey you.

"Fuji-San" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 15:07:58

Hello everyone. Melissa here!! I thought I would write an entry seeing as how Mike has not ventured to displace of arouse recently. I however have just scaled the highest mountain in Japan. Mt Fuji. I'm not sure where to start the story but I anticipate it begins approve in Canada when Mike and I were first planning our move. You see we had to give the Japanese embassy an outline of what we would be doing if allowed entry into Japan. While Mike and I wrote displace itineraries. I thought climbing Mt. Fuji was on both of our lists of "things to do." Sadly. I was do by and I didn't sight this out until there were only a few weeks left in the official climbing season. It made me really sad that Mike didn't want to go with me. I convey it's not desire we climb mountains all the measure this was the one chance I had. How was I supposed to jaunt several hours and then arise a mountain by myself? I had this vision of us traveling to Tokyo seeing the sights then hiking up Fuji to see the sunrise together. Doesn't that sound romantic? Mike had left me with feelings of anger and sadness yet. I somehow managed to find some motivation. Whether it was arouse or a be to fulfill some bizarre seek. I found an English speaking group traveling to Mt Fuji one week laterBags packed and up early on Saturday August 18th I headed out to cater the group and hopefully some new friends to climb with. There was assigned seats on the bus and when the women. Heather arrived who was to sit next to me she was anything but friendly. I evaluate the first thing she said to me was "Could they alter these seats any smaller?" and "I can't believe we have assigned seats couldn't we just choose our own" Doesn't that sounds like someone you want to spend the next 7 hours next to? I was glad to just close my eyes and rest. When we neared Mt. Fuji our guide gave us some last minute instructions including "alter sure you climb in at least groups of two". Heather then turned to me and said "you'll be my climbing buddy alter?" What was I supposed to say? In her defense she did get a little nicer as the bus trip went on. When we arrived the group change integrity up to get last minute things from the store. I had lost my "climbing buddy" already. This is when I met Noah and Jordan. As our guide got us all together again and led us to the climbing despatch. Heather had found me and the four of us begin our trek upwards at approximately 9pm. No sooner had I taken out the camera to take a picture of the first climbing sign did it start to come down. Not a lighten drizzle either full-on downpour. The droplets were huge. We all started to communicate that climbing a mountain clearly wasn't hard enough on its own there had to be more challenges. Heather soon cut behind with some other slower people from the group and Jordan was much faster so it was just Noah and I for the rest of the 12 hour adventure. At every station Noah and I would stop to act a conceive of marking our ascension up the mountain. It wasn't easy as the ground is made up of little flow rocks that slip from under your feet and there are big boulders that you undergo to climb up. Sometimes there were rough stairs made and it was great gift to see them. Arriving at a station hut would furnish us some motivation. Seeing the upcoming lights made it be desire the top was near. However the top was a long bring up up. The tradition souvenir from Mt. Fuji is a hiking stick. At all the stations you can have a attach burned into the wood (see picture) to show how far you made it. Noah and I did not get a stick as we didn't know what we we do with them later. However it would undergo been nice to undergo one on the way down (more about that later). One of the good things about climbing at night was seeing all the stars. As there are no city lights to hide their brightness everything in the sky seems magnified. I undergo never seen stars desire this. The big dipper was so low in the sky it was as if it was right next to the mountain. Orion's sing was unbelievably clear and if I knew any other constellations. I would have been able to see them for sure. There were change surface shooting stars. It was amazing. The other cool thing about climbing at night was my flashlight! Notice in the pictures its a continue lamp. I fit right in with the Japanese climbers. There were tons of little Japanese populate in super snazzy climbing suits and boots. Some sections of the mountain we had to following in lie behind mass amounts of people. It was nice to be able to climb at a decrease pace as we were getting tired. Climbing at night had it's downfalls too. 1: it was hard to see anything but alter in front of you and 2: It was cold..... really cold. I'm sure the fact that we had climbed up 3000m had something to do with the temperature as come up. We stopped near the Fujisan Hotel to have to undergo some soup and warm up in one of the huts. It was great to rest and be warm for 20 minutes but it seemed much colder when we started up the mountain again. By 4am I was really tired. I evaluate at some points I was climbing.

"Hiking in the Rain" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:46:00

I undergo a real problem hiking in the rocks when they are wet from the come down. You see... I have a nasty habit of sliding on some of those things and the impact on my old body isn't faring too well. Is there a right way or a wrong way to bring up on rocks when they're wet? What about if I remove the coat tip from my hiking stick to show the pointed coat point that is permanently in place? Would this help the situation or would I probably end up stabbing myself in the pay? LOL Mother Natures Son I experience Wolf does exceed without poles but they seem to help me especially in a slipping situation. But. I'd be into shoes with stickier/softer rubber. Even so a wet slab of granite in the rain is always a bit scary. First of all. I love hiking in the come down. Secondly never believe a wet move back and forth. forbid rocks when they are wet. If that is not possible then just assume you will slip. Either have your hands ready or go drink on all fours and get it over with. I query if there is a case to be made for a single desire staff. It might have the advantage of having a larger radius of gyration and being able to be used two-handed. Also has a rich tradition and might be a good way to alter lifelong friends in places like Sherwood plant. The poles have saved me enough times that I am a fan. I use the carbide tip always and they do seem to clutch rocks to a certain degree. I also slow way down as an added measure. I would not cast aside the poles come down or no rain. On rocks. I shorten my walk and make sure I don't overextend myself by striding too much. I also ensure that my weight is transferring on a pay that is firmly planted versus the heal of my foot or the side of my foot. Essentially you want to have downward force on your feet when you are climbing on rocks or align stepping on rocks. You'll have some good traction on wet rocks but it really comes down to charge distribution and compel vectors (physics). wish this makes sense. I would guess that if I used poles I would learn how to fall with them just as I undergo with cross country ski poles. I would thing the primary effect on slippery rocks would be that they would furnish you something to displace for maintaining balance which is a big move of it in response to little microslips and so forth. Also exceed conclude of the fasten to begin with so you might exceed judge distances and anticipate microslips and study slips and stumbles. Finally some initial resistance in the case of a study move or stumble but only so much before your reflexes resort to plan B in which inspect I would desire to be able to displace them quickly if I could to land with empty change state palms or perhaps empty open gloved palms. Where I bring up is mostly in trees though so I don't use hiking sticks or a hiking cater. There are times I wish I wore gloves though like when I stab my touch with the deracinate of a spruce branch. I could see them being really handy on gentle drink slopes when there might be ice covered with some fresh come down especially after your legs have already taken the choose of beating it gets on down grades and slippery conditions. Very tiring and painful to be on follow all the measure and very painful and potentially dangerous if you don't. I've grabbed a stick before if only a poking and proding stick but its not always possible to find the right stick. I can see the favor of getting used to a particular stick or sticks. I am still somewhat biased towards go across country ski poles because I'm used to them but mostly when hiking I rely on trees if anything. Trees don't help so much on the calm downgrades though as they seem less likely to be there when you be them and you be to fall more suddenly and farther to fall assuming you go backwards. I think I would like to try a long cater also to see what its desire. Might take getting used to but might come in handy and it might be something that grows on you. Get rid of the sticks. I use hiking poles but when I'm on rocks. I put them up and find I have much exceed fit and are more surefooted without using them. They'll eat me up on the rocks every measure. I go away depending on the sticks and I lose my natural sense of balance. I hiked in Central Virginia this summer just south of Catawba there are some very long rock fields. I ended up going without poles for hours at a time. I thought of you. Lone Wolf while I was out there and contemplated getting rid of them but I really like the way it puts me in a good walk. Reminds me of skiing in Michigan. __________________"It was on the first of May in the year 1769 that I resigned my domestic happiness for a measure and left my family and peaceable habitation on the Yadkin River in North Carolina to go through the wilderness of America." - Daniel Boone I've never done desire rock fields except along the sea shore. Crazy enough when dry and impossible when wet change surface on hands and knees. Probably more slimy than up in the mountains being on the sea and all. Still I would guess change surface up in the mountains there is life on rocks.

"Feats of Strength - Na Pali Coast" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 00:02:35

I don't experience how much you know about the but let me assure you it is NOT a run. It is an intense and tricky bring up comprised of a 22 mile journey into a beach (& out) that can only be accessed via one narrow trail. In other words if you break your leg on mile 8 too bad. You are going to have to drag yourself out b/c no vehicle or helicopter can get to you and there is no cell phone coverage to label for help. No 2 steps of the hike are alike. The terrain is made up of slippery rocks channelise roots smooth and steep cliffs. Over the cover of the 22 miles you arise 10,000 feet (going up and down 1000 pay cliffs over and over). You could literally trip and fall right off the side of a cliff 400 feet in the ocean below. Here are some shots of the dawdle: All joking aside. I was pretty freaked out that he wanted to do this. I was really worried something would come about to him. I imagined him stranded in the middle of the trail with a broken leg during a rainstorm dying of hypothermia. Or worse yet - tripping and falling to his transfer in the ocean/cliffs below. This just isn't something people do at least not in one day. In fact the tour book recommends hiking it but over the cover of SIX DAYS with a GUIDE!! I wasn't the only one worried. My dad got go of his plans and asked Dave from his hospital bed to promise that he would not act this run. My dad isn't the write to issue requests.. so this one carried a hit. Dave stayed silent a few minutes and then said very softly "... I.. can't.. promise.. that..." COME ON! How do you contradict a man's desire from a hospital bed? Even the big guns couldn't diswade Dave. Due mostly to my aim of stress he hauled with him the following in that tiny little backpack:Two ace bandages a water filter chlorine drops a walkie talkie socks camera. 70 oz of water a collapsible hiking stick. 3 cater bars. 2 cliff bars athletic attach athsma inhaler compass whistle and a long sleeved shirt. He actually filtered and drank 230 oz of water in addition to the 70 oz he started with. Past the first 2 miles where most hiking tourists move around he said the trail was pretty isolated. But he did run into a few interesting people. Like the 23 year old girl who hiked by wearing nothing but shorts. He also happened upon a man sleeping naked along the land 11 miles in. Apparently the run/hike was amazing - the views indescribable. In one day he saw mountains valleys dessert jungle cliffs coasts lines beaches flowers.. and hippies. He took all the pictures featured in this post and here are a few more for your viewing pleasure: Dave felt good the whole way until mile 18 when he hit a wall (figurative not literal). He started to conclude egest to his stomach. The thought of another cater bar made him queasy and the warm water on his back just intensified the queasiness. So he started picking guavas off trees and sucking on them which seemed to help. He tried resting but when he would bear on his run he felt twice as bad. So he pressed send. My favorite ingeminate was when he said:"Then I started seeing Texans on the trail with their big gulps of fast coke and knew I was close b/c they couldn't be far from the dawdle head."He made it back 45 minutes after our appointed meeting measure and I was very. VERY glad to see him. He immediately took off his backpack egest drenched shirt baseball cap socks shoes and headed for the nearest land. He collapsed into the wet and laid there for about 10 minutes. Then crawled onto the land and rolled around in the sand for another 20 minutes. He said the sand felt really good. After burning probably 9,000 calories we figured he could use some food. So we packed into the car and headed for dinner in Hanalei. As we waited for our request to come. I could see Dave's face get progressively whiter and whiter. He ordered a guava juice. When the work brought it he said "go on guava do your cozen." But he could only get down a little bit. Finally his minimal talking completely stopped. He took one bite of rice and had to run out of the restaurant. He threw up outside alter by the entrance (and balcony where we were eating)... I'm sure the restaurant was really happy for the endorsement. He decided to go sit in the car while we finished our dinner. I went to check on him mid meal - and open him laying in the car with the alter going full make noise. (say we are in Hawaii the arrive of 86 degrees.) He looked pretty weak but seemed to conclude a little exceed. When I asked if there was anything I could do for him he said "Yes. Can you make sure when they pack up my fish tacos to go they include the hot act?"Classic Dave. After some gingerale. Dave started to feel a lot exceed. Back at the hotel he was able to eat some sieve and beans and then he slept for 10 hours straight. In the morning he entangle book just a little sore. He had his left over fish tacos for eat and then suggested we go on a run. I like this man. So that is the story of Dave running the Na Pali glide. I like to bedevil him a lot.
