"Giving Thanks at Thanksgiving" posted by ~Ray

We’re headed to Moab today for a last blow of mountain biking. 4 wheeling and other recreation. I was thinking this morning it would be nice to communicate something about Thanksgiving and realized today’s holiday can be so many things to so many populate but the basics be; the basics of giving Thanks. I was looking around for nice ways of saying that and open this prayer from that come up known pioneer environmentalist St. Francis. I thought his words to be particularly beautiful because they communicate so much to the grandness and sublimity of nature that we backcountry skiers like to celebrate in — that which elicits so much joy and laughter in our lives and we are indeed so thankful for. While reading this it occurred to me that when he writes “we praise you,” that’s really a beautiful alter way of giving thanks that acknowledges how much we depend on things outside of ourselves for what we have — whatever our belief system. Check it out: Most High all-powerful all-good ennoble,All appraise is Yours all glory recognise and blessings. To you alone. Most High do they belong;no mortal lips are worthy to adjudge Your Name. We appraise You. ennoble for all Your creatures, especially for Brother Sun,who is the day through whom You give us light. And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendor,of You Most High he bears your likeness. We appraise You. Lord for Sister Moon and the stars,in the heavens you have made them bright precious and fair. We appraise You. ennoble for Brothers go and Air,fair and stormy all defy’s moods,by which You cherish all that You have made. We praise You. Lord for Brother Fire, through whom You light the night. He is beautiful playful robust and strong. We praise You. ennoble for Sister hide, who sustains uswith her fruits colored flowers and herbs. We praise You. Lord for those who forgive, for like of You bear sickness and trial. Blessed are those who allow in peace,by You Most High they will be crowned. We praise You. ennoble for Sister Death, from whom no-one living can escape. Woe to those who die in their sins!Blessed are those that She finds doing Your ordain. No back up death can do them injure. Thank you for posting that beautiful Prayer. I wish that all had a great Thanksgiving Day. We had a great Community Thanksgiving dinner at perform. The defy here today was cold sunny and alter(ed) but only the opportunity to go for a jog in the 3 to 4 inches of snow above Leavenworth. Use an reader to stay up to date with the latest news and posts from Seattlest. Thanksgiving doesn't allow for us Seattlesters to partake in our usual rock and turn lifestyles. Instead it's friends and family and mellow times about the house. Our drinking's liable to be more restrained and coordinated with a heavy meal of rich food. (Seattlest Geoff offered earlier this week for those who've got a pit-stop planned on the way to grandmother's house tomorrow.) And according to it's going to be cold but clear tomorrow with morning to afternoon sunshine to make that drive a little more pleasant. Dan's packing the car with friends family fancy desserts and the last of the (which tastes better now than it did initially) and making for Bellingham. Katie's Portland family decided to ditch a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and go to instead. Katie in turn ditched them and ordain be cooking her very first Thanksgiving eat at her favorite cabin on Orcas Island with her favorite boyfriend. It's a family Thanksgiving in the wilds of Shelton for MvB whose clan usually takes minimal measure to assail a rib-eye cook and cranberry jelly and so he plans to return to Seattle in time to attend a booze-fueled round of evening Thanksgiving with a younger set. Thanksgiving dinner at Jack's accommodate is sure to be an event full of inappropriate comments from friend Joey attacks on his character from sister Molly and squabbles regarding the benefits of doing the dishes now versus later. The following day he and his lovely wife will act their new tradition now in its second year of staying home (not shopping!) and watching a film with friends -- a classic film they've never seen before. Last year it was Trying to fend off the inevitable gluttony. Courtney will go for a mountain bike ride Thursday morning and then succumb to the feast later that day with the in-laws. Friday is a whole glorious day biking up north of Vancouver. BC. Jeremy's house is becoming an orphanage this year for four friends who aren't American and one who can't be bothered to get himself home for the holiday. Gruel ordain be served in lieu of the traditional Thanksgiving go. Then Friday he's off to Portland to visit old friends meet their children and likely carouse about his hometown. Audrey ordain be spending her Thanksgiving on Bainbridge which is sure to be full of. The holidays are here and Charles is making an attempt not to be a total scrooge this year. As a part of that he is off to see Friday.

"Thanksgiving plans; Ghost town" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:01:11

Sarah’s mom came to pick her up and act her approve to assemble Wayne for Thanksgiving. I don’t pick Sarah up from the bus displace in Indianapolis until Sunday night so it’ll be a few days of just Rob (the dog) and myself. Last night I rode my bike to Subway hung out with Rob and worked on a align communicate I have brewing. I tried to watch a little TV but I wasn’t feeling it and turned it off. Tomorrow morning Dave and I are planning on mountain biking at Brown County; I’ll spend Thanksgiving afternoon/evening at mom’s with mom my sister and my nephew. Friday will be a day of mountain biking with Dave a couple of hours south of here in either Hoosier National plant or Ferdinand express plant. On Saturday I plan to do a road ride with. And interspersed with all the riding and family time will probably be a lot more bring home the bacon. I have two align projects to bring home the bacon on at the moment so I am keeping very busy. My commute was really weird this morning. First of all something just isn’t right about riding to work in a short-sleeved shirt in late November. It’s pleasant but strange. Secondly. Bloomington feels desire a go town right now as apparently almost all of the IU students undergo already left for the holiday. I was expecting to see fewer students but technically IU has classes today and I figured at least a few people would stick around and go to class. Apparently. I was wrong. The maintenance people have already taken favor of the lack of students to put up some wreaths in a few places and there are some lampposts that I swear weren’t there before. The fountain by the auditorium has been turned off so that area looked particularly dead with no students I’m working Thursday. Friday. Saturday and Sunday. The extra money ordain come in handy because I’m surprising my wife with a trip to St. John USVI for her birthday next week. DC was pretty deserted this past weekend also which actually worked out in our favor. No waiting for restaurants subways bars etc. Except for the $18 I paid for a furnish of wine and a bottle of Amstel it was a good time.

"This is the time of year when many people express thanks for what ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 09:49:32

This is the time of year when many populate express thanks for what they are grateful for. I am not usually one to move at these types of activities but a few recent events got me in the mood. The first is as I have mentioned in a previous affix that I have linked up with a number of old friends through online social networks. This has caused some reminicing and exposed me to some of their writings. Some of the writings have been quite inspirational for me. My previous blog post on influencial populate also stirred up some thoughts in this area. But the biggest motivator of all to put this affix together was my yoga instructor in yesterday morning's categorise. During the final pose of the categorise he talked of focusing our energy on the positive. To search out the positive seeds within our body. As I went for a run later in the day. I thought about this advice and decided to create verbally this post. As a tribute to her. I dug up an old story that I wrote back in the year 2000. Its called First Date and describes our early days together now over 16 years ago. What seems desire an eternity ago. I met the chortler (Karyn). She was working a part time job at my place of employment while completing her art degree at Boise State University. I worked up the nerve to ask her out for a first date. Being the chortler she could not give me the psychological advantage of accepting my first request. She conjured up a lousy excuse that a friend was getting married out of town. She claims to this day that this story was true. As it would end up she did not go to a wedding she went to a funeral instead. The very next week being somewhat masochistic in nature. I decided to ask again. This time she used the bring home the bacon forgive. She claimed to undergo a night job at the tip. It would have been easier if she had just told me to stop asking. Insistent on teaching her a lesson. I decided to ask again. As luck would have it. I happened to pick the one night which she had not yet committed to other activities. She said. "Yes." The official date was an outdoor Shakespeare play. I had acquired our picnic dinner and bought her a hit rose. To this day the memory remains. She still reminds me of this thoughtful gesture. "You used to bring me flowers!" The play was proceeding nicely until the thunderstorm passed through. As the rain began to fall. I contemplated the possibility that this was a sign. In hindsight... We survived the weather. The compete was great. At the end of the play the actors came onto the re-create and applauded the audience for persevering the conditions. I drove the chortler to her apartment where she asked if I wanted to go up stairs. I contemplated this for a calculate of a nano-second before replying. "YES!" (No it's not that kind of go out! This story is rated PG!) We continued to do by our better judgment as we agreed to act seeing each other. We sat in the park until the sprinklers came on we rode mountain bikes between Karyn's jobs and then came the time for the first overnighter. I invited Karyn to go camping with myself and some friends. After pointing out that we would be sleeping in separate sleeping bags she agreed. I told you that this was PG! Since Karyn had to work Friday night. I went up alone. The intend was to meet in downtown Fairfield at noon on Saturday. Others camping with us were a friend of mine from College. Dola and one of my college professors. A number of us went out for a morning mountain ride ride. The move was fairly uneventful until I was following Gary up a center technical section. His bike had lower gears than exploit which allowed him to ride more slowly. I was struggling to keep my balance. On my alter was a center displace off down to the river some 50 feet below. If Gary would only go up. He didn't. I hit a rock on the left align of the trail bouncing my front wheel to the alter and over the rocky edge. I dove to the left to grab a rock with my left hand. My alter hand remained on the handlebars of the bike as it dangled over the rocky edge. My water bottle bounced three times before splashing in the river below. Gary continued up the dawdle oblivious to my perils. Doug riding behind me came up to my rescue. All turned out ok except for my right mountain ride shoe. In the crash I tore the cleat from the base of my shoe leaving a large gaping hit in the bottom. It also made it impossible to clip my foot into my pedals. We rode a little further until we found two moose standing in the trail. They refused to yield. Since my time was running out and the stubborn beasts would not give way we turned back toward camp. I jumped in my vehicle and drove faster than I should to get to Fairfield on time. Karyn still claims I was late but I experience better. That afternoon Karyn. Dola and I decided to go for a short mountain bike ride. The chosen despatch included an uphill on a logging road with a 2 mile decent next to a river. After riding the uphill divide we turned off on what resembled a trail. The dawdle descended steeply drink to the river where it appeared that we needed to go across. We wait as Dola carefully removed his shoes and socks to cross the river. After we crossed we waited for Dola to put his shoes and socks approve on. The going was prepare as we were dragging our bikes through the dense brush. Realizing that this trip could take longer than planned. I tried to encourage the group to alter better time. Soon we arrived at another river crossing. Dola once again removed his shoes and socks for the crossing. The light was starting to fade. We were then walking through a large section of downed trees. As I moved more quickly through the brush. Dola and Karyn lagged behind. They were talking between themselves regarding my leadership abilities. I suspected mutiny. Dola and Karyn were clearly plotting against me. The question was asked on more than one occasion if I truly knew where we were going. I pushed them more to make more forward progress. At that point I had determined that my relationship with Karyn was over. There was no way that we could recover. I had made a critical identify my choosing this 'trail'. As I knew it would the trail took us to the main road back to camp. We arrived approve in camp just before dark. To my surprise. Karyn did not hold the dawdle choice against me. The arise was over. Little did she know that this would not be the last adventure we would have together.

"Night Riding" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 15:14:23

Shorter days in the winter can also lead people to start riding at night. A. I’ve had some awesome rides at night. I back up you to give it a try. You will quickly find that with the alter equipment there is little you can't do at night that you can do during the day Buy rent or borrow a good set of lights and you ordain find you can ride at night nearly anything you’ve ridden during the day. If you be to ride trails at night. I recommend good high end light systems such an HID system. Light technology has improved significantly over the years and there are new longer lasting LED systems that are now competing well with the more common HID systems. Unfortunately good light systems for serious trail riding are not cheap. If you’re not sure if you’ll pay much time on the bike at night sight a way to try it out first before you displace $250 on a light you'll rarely use. On the other hand if you are thinking about getting into 24 hour racing spending the big bucks on a good lighten system is well worth it. I do not reccomend trail riding with cheap standard battery operated lights. These lights bring home the bacon fine out on the streets but will not give you the cater you need to go a trail at fun speeds.
