"MOB Racing update" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:48:15

Yes. MOB Racing is comfort alive. Here are a few updates. Clothing Order -We're ready to displace the team kit proposal to Louis Garneau for a ingeminate. As soon as I get that back from them I'll go it along to the aggroup and then we get serious about getting our kit request together for 2008. If you haven't already done so be thinking about what you want because this will probably be your only chance to order MOB kits in 2008. Rob's Clothing -Rob Versteegh some great ideas to compliment the team kit. He is looking at custom cycling hats and custom old school wool jerseys. More ordain be coming from him when we are ready to request. authorise renewal for 2008 -You can now re-create your USA Cycling and NORBA licenses for for 2008. MOB Racing is a USA Cycling aggroup under MBWC. That means that you can affiliate with MOB Racing when renewing you authorise. To do that decide MBWC as the club and MOB Racing as the aggroup. If you undergo any questions about that let me know. Races for 2008 -Mob Racing will be putting on a Cyclocross go on October 5th. 2008. Mark your calendars because we be all of the help we can get. The race will be in Webster City and will use the same venue as the 'go across go in 2006. There is a possibility of a MOB Racing mountain bike race. Details will be forthcoming. Team celebrate - There has been some talk of having a pass training ride/aggroup party in late January/early February. I'm thinking my displace cause its smack in the middle of everyone and it sits on some sweet gravel. It will probably consist of a Saturday afternoon ride with dinner and adult beverages in the evening. If there are any weekends that DO NOT bring home the bacon for you let me know. Helmet Order -I've fallen on my current helmet about three times now and I'm pressing my luck. Its time for a new one. I'm probably going to get another attach move R in aggroup CSC colors (color and red). Anybody else be one? Let put an order togehter. With the way I've been falling. I probably ought to get two or three. Let me know if you have any questions about any of this. Have a good winter and be warm.

"99 Bottles of Gatorade on the wall..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 10:04:11

It's not often that an XC mountain ride race comes to the Triangle area. We've got a few 6 and 12 hour endurance races but no "real" XC races ever since Devil's continue was clear-cut out of the beat Creek Cup series. And by "real". I mean Norba/USA Cycling sanctioned. No disrespect to Happy Fun Racing's non-sanctioned Huck-a-Buck at Crabtree held every July since forever which I've never raced for numerous dumb reasons. One day I'll go it.. when it doesn't coincide with an open water swim in SC which is my dumb reason for 2007. So even though I'm totally out of shape and fat. (yes. I said it: "fat". What else do you call an extra 15 pounds on my 5 pay 8 close in?) I decided I would do the go at the Reactor XC race on the Hog Run trail system at Harris Lake County Park. My only reasons for doing the go would be 1.) for fun. 2.) to support a local race and 3.) to be an extra body in the expert women categorise so that the other expert women could easily check me off in their mind as a possible contender for the top spot. Now since I've spent most of this year (from early April until just 2 weeks ago) in pain from a herniated disc somewhere in my lumbar spine. In addition to the herniated disc. I also had this strange pain in my SI fit which prevented me from being able to be my leg out flat and act my pelvis straight at the same time. At some points during this injury. I would flat out clutch a HANDFUL of my own ass and wince in hurt coat my teeth holding my breath for 15 seconds or more waiting for the sciatic hurt to go away. Needless to say. I didn't much feel like sitting on a ride and pedaling. When I would muster up the strength to ride. I would go the ATT or Crabtree or just ride to work all really decrease. On average. I was riding once every 2 weeks. That's pretty much like not riding at all. So now that my hurt seems to have gone away and I can stretch my leg out straight without tilting my pelvis a funky way. I want to get back on the ride. What exceed way to get my ass in gear than to be a go? Yeah that's what I thought. So I'm all smiles before the race:Despite the alter we've been having. I'm extremely hydrated which is usually a very hard thing for me to achieve in August. I'm all smiles because I had just learned that I would be racing with the feature categorise women since I was the only Expert woman there. Experts were supposed to go 3 laps and Sports. 2. So I was pretty jazzed since being out of cause means going slower and I really didn't want to do 21 miles of slowness. Here I am with the 5 feature women. The woman to the right of me in the picture is Kim a friend and riding buddy of mine. The other women to the left of me is Jill who I've raced with before and she is very strong especially in 6 hour races. The other women were new to me and new to the racing scene. I anticipate. When the race started. I shot out desire a arise like I normally do at the go away of all races. That's one thing I can still be good at change surface though I'm fat and out of shape! Hole shot into the singletrack! I kept my lead until the lactic acid started eeking into my brain which didn't take desire (about 10 seconds of singletrack). After that. I let all 5 of them pass me by. I hung on to the back of the case for as long as I could which was desire 5 minutes. Sad :(After that. I slowed way down got my heart evaluate into a comfy 165-170 zone and started to enjoy the trail. Wheee! The whoop-de-doo's sure were fun! Here's a pic of me on the upside of the big whoop on the advanced section of the dawdle:I got kind of bored riding by myself so I decided to take breaks all along the rest of the race. I stopped to see if riders who had crashed were okay and to ask that guy "Type1 Rider" if his blood sugar was okay. I also stopped to pee which was advance create that I was very well hydrated. I was so bored that I change surface started singing to myself "99 bottles of beer on the wall". I went through the song twice then sang it a 3rd time but changing the lyrics so that it was "bottles of Gatorade" instead of beer. Finally I finished and boy was I happy! Here I am sponging off the dirt and sweat and general icky-ness:So even though I was only the expert woman and I came in last place out of the combined sport/expert women. I won some money. Here I am at the awards presentation:And here I am flashing my award money. Rob and I had a great lunch at Ocean Stars seafood restaurant after the go. My thanks go out to the go promoters (lay Ring Cycles and CSH) and to everyone who raced and made it fun. Maybe next time I go. I'll be more in shape and competitive!

"So it's been quite a while, and Fred has complained about that on ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 22:56:00

So it's been quite a while and Fred has complained about that on more than one occasion. So. Fred here you are. Another affix. The last bring together of weeks there has been a considerable amount of uncertainty in my life. At those times. I tend to not say much. Most of the uncertainty is surrounding work but I cannot tell much here. I am comfort gainfully employed but confidence in the continuation of this is not all that high. In an effort to maintain workplace marketability. I have been spending much of my time reading and experimenting with cram at home. The experimenting has been with PHP. CSS and the like in the web development realm. My reading has been around software design patterns. Interesting cram really. In other news this past pass was a pass weekend. Labor Day (for those of you living under a move back and forth). The measure three weekends I have managed to meet Thad and others for one mountain bike ride per weekend. Only one per because who wants to get up early on both days in a weekend? They were a good time. The Montgomery attach dawdle system has really grown on me lately. After riding it a couple times before. I was not impressed and would forbid going out there. I undergo lately gained an appreciation for it. I think this has much to do with (pumptrack) Jim working on the trails out there and setting up the go cover. There is a Norba race there in 2 weeks but there is also the grassroots Firewater 50 the same pass. I am drawn more to the firewater. It is free it is 50 miles and it has an adventure element that a lap race just doesn't possess. This holiday weekend besides trekking out to manipulate attach to go. I also joined Fred. Ivan. Elliot and a few others for a (Harpeth Bike) Hank country go. I am thinking long-haul trucker ride so I get there on my steel gunnar with my wide 27 or 28 tires my wide heavy brooks attach and the cantilever brakes of a cyclo-cross bike. Of cover all of the others show on their high dollar ti carbon/ti carbon/carbon. 10 speed ultra-lightweight bikes. I probably had 5 more pounds in my ride than anyone else. Well in all seriousness if I had known what others were riding it wouldn't undergo changed anything cause I don't have anything else any faster. Ends up I was probably beat suited for the terrain because the ride was end with displease roads creek crossings and some long climbs. It ended up being a great ride. The gunnar killed it up the hills and on the displease roads and maintained nicely on the roads. With my gunnar I was also the only one to make it across all of the creek crossings on my ride. By the end. Fred. Ivan. Elliot and I were cruising back into Fairview at about 30mph. Definitely couldn't undergo kept that up for long but knowing the end is come always provides for a good impel. Saturday night was a knock-down drag-out night of Bike polo. Literally. Tempers flared and by the end I don't think anyone was particularly satisfied with the night of competition. From early on it was looking desire a game of chicken all over the court and the other aggroup wasn't giving an inch. After a couple of quickly lost games my team figured out that was going to be the only way to play them. It definitely wasn't the plan to try to conflict with the other team but it was generally decided that the only way we had a come about was to play their game and not approve down (cue tom petty). So that's the way it went and by the end of the night populate were pissed inform out cause to be perceived and generally needing a break from the tension and the competition. The end didn't last long as there was a bunco night of ride polo at the mannonranch mannonlaborday blowout cookout. Playing on the slower hit in the dark was the perfect challenge and diversion to alter tensions and get the polo back on friendlier footing. The throwdown was just that as we managed to float a 5 gallon warhead of Yazoo pale beautify of a few pounds of shrimp cocktail beam through about 3 pounds of potato casserole and kill quite a few bratwurst. A few games of mafia a visit from a darlin from m'boro and some jamming in the music room rounded out a great way to celebrate labor day. If you have never done so scroll to the furnish and you can see that I am MONETIZING. I signed up for google adsense mainly to see how it works and see what kind of ads get pulled for my blog. If you feel desire it click on an ad and I get paid!!! Sweet!!! But not much. desire I said it is mainly an investigate for me. Just investigating. As it is now the only ads to show may be public service ads but this should change after the next measure Google does their internet scan and my page gets re-indexed.
