My buddy Bryan and I drove from Asheville to Roanoke yesterday to cater with a money manager.  I went down a few days early to hang out with Bryan and his family.  We were up at 6 to play racquetball then drove four hours to Roanoke Virginia.  The colors were absolutely stunning - reds oranges yellows and greens - all shades.  And big rolling hills and mountains.  Bryan got pulled over and made a heroic exit off the highway to avoid the guard but was unsuccessful.  $200 dollar ticket for 87 in a 65.  I took over driving and dropped the speed significantly to the mid 70s.  But I STILL got pulled over!  For 74 in a 65!  So two tickets in one short trip.  Anyways we made it to our appointment safely and 3 hours approve to Charlotte and a plane pip back to Chicago and all is well.  After rockclimbing so much last week and craning my head to be up. I have a bruise or weird hurt on the back of my head and pet.  Yesterday it seemed to spread to the align of my head and face and was a numbness and slight pain.  And undergo gotten a bunch of bumps on my cheek.  My buddy Spencer is a adulterate and happened to call last night - shingles it sounds like or just something that ordain go away in time.  I do undergo red itchy bumps on the backs of both legs too not sure what that’s from.  Weird.

"North Carolina day trip #1" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:53:42

I have a bring together of extra days at the end of my bring home the bacon thing so last night I bought the handy book. The weather forecast for the coast today was comfort a bit cloudy and windy thanks to so I went west instead. The trip I did was called “Crossroads of Furniture and grill”. That sounds odd but it was certainly accurate. First. I took interstate 40 across to Jamestown. I got out at there and had a really pleasant walk: early on a Saturday morning it was very peaceful just the trees and the ducks and me. I really wanted to see Mendenhall Plantation - a Quaker museum that served in the Underground Railway - but it was closed until later in the day. Next. I drove the few miles to the city of High inform. It’s famous for its furniture; it’s a weird town with hundreds of massive furniture stores. I stopped first at the free which was really come up done. It showed the entire history and development of the area in a way that wasn’t too cheesy. Things I learned: jazz great John Coltrane grew up there and Krispy Kreme donuts started there. After the museum I drove downtown and saw the (complete with giant socks) and had a loaded hot dog with sweet tea at (an old-time lunch-counter diner). From there. I drove on to Thomasville. After a very bunco walk (there’s not much more to see other than the “not anymore it’s not” ). I sat in a pleasant new café on Main Street and had an iced coffee and read the paper. From there I found I had some extra measure so I headed off-itinerary and drove south to the which had some nice lakes trees with autumn colours and populate hiking and horseriding. One unsurprising thing I saw everywhere I went was lots of churches although I was amused by one with a write that said. “Feeling stressed? bequeath: even Moses was a basket case once.” Next I got approve on-course and drove north to Lexington. This was another nice walking town with plenty of historic buildings and an impressive cemetery. But mainly I was here because I’d heard that Lexington has. I stopped in the and had the barbecue coat of coarse-chopped pork bring up with barbecue sauce barbecue slaw (made with tomato-vinegar not mayo) fries and. Wow. It really was incredibly tasty. I’m not the only one who thinks so either: rated it #2 in their large sampling in the region and they look like they experience good grill. More than satisfied with my day. I hit the road and beelined back to Durham and my hotel. I’m going to fit another trip in before my pip tomorrow evening. I wish it’s as good as this one was.
