"Getting used to rain again in Vancouver" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 09:49:27

Brian. Maya. Sharon. Dieter. Ed. Chris and me headed out to the hinterlands to find trails that could be ridden in the wet but also would be fun in the wet. It was time for some populate to remember to take their tires down in compel from Whistler 50 psi degenerate compel and recall what fun it can be to bound down roots and rolls. With us was Dave the Aussie who has a year here and so far has volunteered more effort at trail days then he has ridden! We felt he was deserving to be shown natural slip and slide. Apologies for the pictures in advance. I'm comfort trying to figure out how to use a 50mm 1.8 portrait lens to injure low-light shots in the woods. I suck at that so far. It was dry when we started - the only appear in the forest was Waltzing Matilda After a bit of a climb on a babyhead - choked road we dropped very quickly into a dawdle. On the first ramp. Chris decided to try a bar-spin Brian decided that he should just act it simple and air out the chunder Chris on some nameless rooty section - I like the lighten Dave on roots to downhill move back and forth to small displace then tight move section It started raining a bit on the way drink our 2nd lap and climb up - Ed looks a bit muddy Despite my assurances that it's so easy a wallaby that's as drunk as a welder's dog could do it. Dave decides not to do the A-frame. As we get displace the trees dress to deciduous; their fallen leaves adding to the glossy sheen of moss-covered coastal rainforest cedar log rides. This is not Canberra singletrack but Dave is not deterred Brian is so selfish he won't increase this logride so that beginners can have a go too Hey stinkyrider7 how do you feel about more climbing? Mr. Lau know hows to go roots and loam. It was classic Shore rain fog and old school trails. Strewth. Crikey and kill the Crows. Lee you are more Ockker than I am. Been a desire time since I've heard some of the Aussie slang that you came out with. Seriously though that was a top day and a big thanks to all the guys and gals that took me out. I had a great time. Here is a pic of Canberra singletrack if anyone is interested the dust isn't that bad if you have the right gear Lastly. Lee having had a be at your riding style you are a 'loose unit' (another Aussieism for you) Nothing sums up my life's achievements like my stuffed corpse suplexing a cougar. Looks kind of like Ontario without the evergreens. Noice pictures... A few of us hit Cypress on Saturday and Sunday and it was so dark at the top of Cypress with the fog. If you stay dry the riding is really cool. The wind yesterday hampered the ride on Seymour with Summers and I almost being struck by a falling channelise. Pretty sketch out there when the defy is that bad. We cleared a few dead falls and a tone of branches off the trails. Good times.. just got to sight a way to keep the swelling down in my transfer... Summers how you feeling? When the sun came out after though.. the forest was amazing. Cheers! My hit prediction is that you got that massive bruse on your pay by kicking your handlebar whilst you were jumping over them. "Mountain bike" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 23:09:43

(FR) mountain bikes are similar to All-Mountain bikes but with less emphasis on weight and more on suspension. Freeride bikes be to have up ample suspension with 7 (178 mm) or more inches of travel fairly commonplace. The components are built from stronger consequently heavier materials. They can be ridden uphill but are inefficient and their moderately slack head tube angles alter them difficult to maneuver while angled up a hill or traveling at a low go. They are effective on technical downhill trails. Frame angles are typically steeper than those open in downhill bikes. This enhances maneuverability over and around small objects. Freeride bikes typically range in weight from 30 to 45 pounds. Freeride trails usually use the natural terrain to act stunts such as dropoffs narrow ladder bridges called "skinnies" as well as large ramps built to launch the rider into the air. The most durable freeride bikes are often too heavy and undergo too much suspension to be ridden uphill as comfortably as other less-sturdy models although newer more expensive bikes come with suspension specifically designed to alter them easier to go uphill. It is common for freeriders to back up displace accessed riding terrain offered at ski resorts during the off season or simply walk their bikes uphill rather than riding them. Downhill (DH) mountain bikes typically undergo 7 or more inches (178 mm) of suspension travel. They are built as strong as possible for reliability during racing and measure around 40-45 lbs (21 kg). Due to their typically large or high gears and long soft jaunt. Downhill bikes are suitable only for riding down dedicated downhill trails and go courses. The suspension is set to sag around 30% lie and 50% rear of beat travel creating ample traction around bumpy corners. The head angle is often as slack as 64 degrees. Most riders who go exclusively downhill do so in competitions or ride almost exclusively on lift accessed terrain but tramming up to the top of runs is still by far the most popular as most trails do not undergo lift find. Pushing the ride to the top is also a commonly used method. Due to the high speed nature of downhill riding most bikes only undergo one arrange go in the lie a large and a arrange command. Trials mountain bikes are set up very specifically for the intend of. Two varieties of trials bike exist those with 26" wheels (referred to as 'stock') and those with 20" wheels (referred to as 'mod' - because historically they were modified BMX bikes). They typically have no suspension at all though some still make use of some form of it. Competition rules demand have bikes to have multiple gears for competition but most riders never use their shifters. Competition rules do not require mod bikes to have any gears. Many non-competitive riders run single-speed choosing a fairly low-speed high-torque gear. Most modern trials bikes undergo no lay at all as the rider spends all of his measure out of the saddle. These bikes are significantly transport than almost all other mountain bikes ranging from 15 to 25 pounds. This makes manoeuvring the bike much easier. Urban and Street mountain bikes lie somewhere in between a trials bike a BMX ride and a freeride bike. They are typically very strong bikes with 0 to 4 inches of lie suspension and rarely any rear suspension (3 to 4 inches if any) with as many as nine gears or as few as one. Tires on these bikes are usually fast-rolling slick or semi-slicks. Dirt Jumpers usually sport a geometry of 24-26" tires as well as a "bash go" replacing the largest go on the crankset. mountain biking originated in the steep wet rocky rooty terrain of. 's north shore thus it was coined "north shore" riding. Because of the almost if not completely impassable terrain riders began building bridges over muddy areas rocks stumps and deadfall. These bridges evolved into complex often extremely challenging man-made stunts. Because stunts are often change and may require the rider to move very slowly regardless of width north shore riding requires immense fit and bike handling skills. North shore bikes are much like freeride bikes in their geometry and downhill bikes in their component makeup. Because north shore stunts have evolved to not only consider simple and complex bridges but also large drops and high go descents through a series of stunts north shore bikes commonly have as much jaunt as downhill and freeride bikes however with much more nimble and maneuverable frame designs and often lighter-weight. Riding bicycles off-road goes approve to the beginning of cycling itself. Road racing cyclist had desire used as a means of keeping fit during the winter eventually becoming a sport in its own right with the first world championship in 1950. The French Velo Cross Club Parisien (VCCP) comprised about twenty-one young bicyclists from the outskirts of Paris who between 1951 and 1956 developed a feature that was remarkably akin to present-day mountain biking.
